Maddon was shocked to discover Albert Almora wasn't the answer for leadoff......or much else of use, really.

Was it Maddon making the best roster he could? Or was it Maddon making a “You put this crap on my roster” type of statement by leading off the position player with the worst OBP on the team? Do we know where the organizational Almora fetish comes from? Do we know why there’s been a... shall we say... disparate treatment of Almora’s and Happ’s development?

How is this even possible?

Since Dexter Fowler departed for free agency after the 2016 season, 56 different players have batted first in the order for Chicago.

It is not possible, it is very wrong.

2017: 11

Jay-51

Zobrist-40

Schwarber-36

Rizzo-14

Happ-8

Heyward-4

Almora-3

Baez-2

Contreras-2

Szczur-1

2018: 10

Almora-46

Rizzo-31

Murphy-30

Zobrist-27

Happ-13

Bryant-7

Baez-4

La Stella-3

Schwarber-1

Contreras-1

2019: 11

Schwarber-56

Heyward-32

Zobrist-23

Almora-15

Rizzo-12

Descalso-11

Kemp-6

Garcia-3

Baez-2

Happ-1

and obviously some overlap so that it's considerably less than the 32 there (also don't open the 2018 spoiler)

I also went out of my way to figure this out for some reason.

Cubs who led off from 2017-2019 (17 players):

Schwarber - 93 games

Zobrist - 90

Almora - 64

Rizzo - 57

Jay - 51

Heyward - 36

Murphy - 30

Happ - 22

Descalso - 11

Baez - 8

Bryant - 7

Kemp - 6

Contreras - 4

Garcia - 3

Martin - 1

Has Charles the Cat given any info about Bryant?

Oh God I'd forgotten all about that stupid cat and now hate you for bringing him up.

Can we discuss this logically yet or is the knee jerk hysteria still going?

Yes, please.

The idea that a franchise almost literally swimming in its own cash would need to trade an extremely productive recent MVP to improve its team (to say nothing of the idea that improving its team would be virtually impossible under that scenario), rather than just going and signing a few players to do so, is horsefeathering bat horsefeathers crazy and anyone who subscribes to that idea out of hand is basically too stupid for any insult to be effective.

I think that's pretty logical.

Guess not. Carry on.
