This is probably insensitive, especially given Lehner's past issues, but I don't understand why you can't just revisit that conversation in a few months. If he wants to be here long term, he's a free agent after this year. Go help out a playoff team and enjoy that run and then figure something out.

Sure its possible. But if you let him to go Vegas and they go on a long playoff run led by him, I doubt he's willing to come back to a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 3 years and sign for less than what he was paid last year.

He was willing to sign here long term up until a few hours ago, if we are to believe the reports. And while he's had a better year than Fleury this year, I doubt he's going to Vegas to take the job away from him going into the playoffs.

I'm just saying, there's always a risk when you let someone leave. He could fall in love with Vegas or playing for a winning hockey team and decide that he doesn't want to come back to a team that is not positioned to compete likely anytime soon. But then again, maybe that's fine....really not going to change the team's trajectory much either way.

Yeah, not going to worry too much about this given the multitude of other issues. Getting Subban back is a little interesting. Just resign Crawford for a couple more years and figure out a way to fill the 3-4 glaring holes on defense.

just a terrible season in terms of what it means for the future . the offseason moves were mostly complete duds and the bad ones have multi-year commitments, strome and debrincat fell off, we sold at the deadline and still got trash, and we probably won't be bad enough to get a top 5 pick.

Seriously just commit to the rebuild. We’ve tried to scrap together competitive teams for the last couple seasons and have nothing to show for it and our old core is 2 years older

Kane, Toews, and Keith all have no movement clauses, and we don't know what kind of conversations have been had about their willingness to waive them. If those three stick around, at their contracts, it's pretty hard to commit to a 'full rebuild'. You hope that you hit on 'scrapping together a competitive team', and you hope that those guys, motivated by a playoff run, can still lead a team on a deep run.

They haven't been rebuilding?

We knew this would happen when they signed everyone to reward extensions.

No, they haven’t. They’ve attempted to sneak into the playoffs the past few years instead of taking their lumps, and traded away more talent than they’ve received.

Fire Bowman now.....to the sun

That contradicts everything Lehner has said over basically the whole season. He's been saying that he wants term and he wants to get "what's fair". If he really was going to take a 3 year deal they'd be announcing his extension today.

There's certainly a case to be made for firing Bowman but these "sources" sounds like somebody making horsefeathers up.

While this is true, and with the acknowledgement that this statement probably isn't fair, Lehner does seem to be the type of person who might have that kind of change of heart over in a short period of time.

Hockey remains the world champion of weird stuff happening. Team TBD won their draft lottery, meaning the No. 1 overall pick goes to the winner of a second lottery made up of teams that lose the made-up play-in round if the playoffs ever happen.

they basically have as good of a chance at the number 1 pick as anybody

The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft will be determined by the Second Phase of the NHL Draft Lottery after the results of the First Phase on Friday.

The team will be one of the eight that are eliminated from the Stanley Cup Qualifiers and will be determined by a second drawing to be held before the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Each of the eliminated teams will have a 12.5 percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick.

losing a playoff series intentionally could be tanking's final form

The GM’s of the lottery teams start at the 50 yard line of the Cowboy’s stadium. The 8 lottery pick ping pong balls are hidden under 8 random seats in the stadium. The GMs will either find the picks or die of a heart attack
