I wonder if Theo is still hoping the team actually puts it together and looks like a contender or if he’s accepted that he’s built a flawed unlikable team in 2019.

Has Joe ever thought not letting an opponents best player beat them is a sound strategy. Or does that theory destroy his thinking 35 moves ahead in the game

It's neat how not a single one of our relievers can consistently get guys out on 2 strike counts

Everyone else is building a pen with guys that have a lot of velocity, Theo and co build a pen with guys that pitch to contact despite a middling defense behind them

A few things

1. I just checked the score right before they gave up the winning run. Did this game actually start at 6:10? How does a regulation 3-2 game go like 3 hours, 30 minutes? I must have had the time wrong.

2. I like to write this every other day or so, although admittedly it's on the Edith Cox annoying level: The Cubs can't score runs without hitting home runs. It's really crappy. I suppose a lot of teams are like that in 2019, but it's still crappy. #CantScoreWithoutTheDong

3. I can't be mad. I really did think they were going to get swept, so to only lose three of four is still better. I wish they would have won the last game instead of the first though, because they really did have a chance to then steal a game over the next three and keep the Brewers exactly where they were when we started this season. Now, it's a much more annoying feeling than had it been the opposite way and we won the last one. Instead, the Cubs are letting them right back into the Wild Card race along with other teams. I think the Cubs kind of suck. Not fully suck, but they aren't awesome. Sort of horsefeathers them. horsefeathers the Brewers more, but horsefeathers the Cubs for just not winning.

Oh, they absolutely need to. But as you said, for the second straight season, we fucked up when playing the Brewers the last two series.

I don't know. Maybe the Marlins actually have a better chance of beating them than we do.

Addison Russell needs to get the horsefeathers off this team. And frankly so does Joe Maddon. I'm so glad football is back so I can mostly ignore these idiots at least a couple days a week.

This team only serves to aggregate. I could never straight out root against them. But I also can’t say I’ll mind when this is over. Because it just ain’t happening.

Once again, we lose when the wrong date is in the game thread title.

Ah, crap. I just did a quick copy and paste because it got too close to game time. I'm never doing another game thread again.

But I'm not taking responsibility for the loss. That was going to happen regardless.

They won't do it and they probably shouldn't, but I'm to the point where I'm fine blowing it all up and starting another rebuild. If this horsefeathers is what we get when they're trying to contend, then just don't and give us something to hypothetically look forward to instead.

That’s a really good way to express how I also feel

wait, they flipped hendricks and lester so lester starts the last game against milwaukee instead? what the horsefeathers is wrong with this organization

Lines Hendricks up against St Louis is what I heard.

use him on the lost cause instead of the team that is chasing us down again. brilliant.

It does and with the off day they can pitch Hendricks on the last day as well.

If they don’t do it people cry that they are settling for the wild card game.

the cardinals series is almost 2 weeks away. the difference between winning or losing the last game against the brewers is huge. 2 games out instead of 4 gives them life. the brewers are closer to them than the cardinals are.

They’d rather go for the division than a 1 gamer vs Max.

Cardinals finish up

3 Wash

4 Cubs

3 Ari

3 Cubs

Will the Cubs win the division? Probably not, but going into the night they were 2 out in the loss column of St Louis when they committed to the decision. 4 up on Milwaukee.

Hopefully Lester comes up big. He has been known to do that when really needed as a Cub.

YUP.

But based on tonight's lineup and tomorrow's pitching choice, it's like they aren't even taking this series seriously. That said, I suppose Hendricks would have sucked any way.
