Garrett is the biggest clown in the league.

What a horrendous approach by Javy, Happ, and Schwarber.

The Cubs are the worst team at letting pitchers off the hook when they are in jams.

Five pitches later. Three outs.

Javy hit the ball like 95 mph, what is the matter with you

Still would have been nice to see him take a few pitches in that spot. Garrett was rattled.

Maddon treats Schwarber as a platoon guy when a lefty starts but lets him face lefty bullpen arms in high leverage. Doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

Oh well, at least they weren’t completely lifeless like most of the road games in the last few months. We’ll win most games if we keep getting as many chances as we had tonight.

Hopefully at least one of the Rangers or Pirates can pull one out tonight and let’s go get em tomorrow.

Just not a great night at the plate for anyone. Swung at a ton of really bad pitches, and took a ton of strikes on the outside edge (which the ump was calling all game)

This is true but I still like his chances of doing something good over Almora or Bote.

Bad news we lost.

Good news Heyward went .333/.600/.667 out of the leadoff spot tonight. I think he’s a keeper.

Got that leadoff OBP over .200 for the year.

Javy had 1st and 3rd and bases loaded both with no outs and swung at the first pitch for outs on the infield both times, then Happ couldn't get it out of the infield with one out both times following.

His OBP is over .300 when he leads off

I mean....that's not really a good thing.

You guys are swiping at each other, but both missing that this is likely just bad timing and Heyward going through a slump. He's definitely not putting up good numbers in the small sample size of his current leadoff hitter stint, but that stretch isn't simply relegated to when he was moved to to the top spot. There's nothing really showing he "should" be leading off right now (for the last month he only has a a .313 OBP, which isn't doing much for a guy who is supposed to be on base for the better hitters behind him), but also Edith's argument seems to be hinged on the idea that hitting leadoff somehow makes Heyward bad, and moving him to another spot would make him good again.

And I’m just busting balls over the term “lead off”. Edith means “when Joe puts him at the #1 spot in the order”, which has no magic positive or negative effect. I’m stating his OBP when he leads off an inning, which (in my pedantic brain) is a truer definition of “when Jason leads off”.

Carry on.

Maybe leading off an inning other than the first, but not hitting from the leadoff spot this year.

Hitting leadoff this season...

.159/.227/.377/.603
