His AA numbers suck but like others have said there’s some pedigree. Get him in to take a look and I would think we will try and sneak him back through waivers to get him off the 40-man at some point and if he clears, great maybe he’s a relief prospect and if some other team claims him so what.

A few write ups on him....

) Ian Clarkin, LHP, Grade C+: Age 22, first round pick by the Yankees in 2013, traded to White Sox in Todd Frazier deal; posted 2.60 ERA in 87 innings between the two organizations in High-A, 63/33 K/BB; once a top prospect but stock has dropped due to durability, has never topped 98 innings, although he’s usually been effective in those innings, low-90s fastball, both curveball and change-up flash plus but he needs to sharpen up his command; ground ball pitcher; my guess is he winds up in bullpen but is successful in that role; ETA 2019.

Clarkin was a first-round pick out of a southern California high school in 2013 due, in part, to a heater that ran into the mid-90s and starter traits, but mostly because of his plus curveball. He still has all of those things and projects as a back-end starter, but his velocity has backed up a bit (88-91, touching 93 mph) due to Tommy John surgery and the rigors of regular pitching in pro ball. Given the plus breaking ball, if Clarkin’s stuff doesn’t play as a starter, he can always be a matchup reliever.
