Dudes like that implode at a moment's notice. That you hope to get anything out of someone like him isn't the same as actually going after someone likely to bolster bullpen. It's mostly a happy accident that DLR has inexplicably been THAT good.

ride him hard and put him up wet

Pretty much; I'm just not expecting him to even last TO the playoffs, much less into them.

I just dislike Kintzler that much....it's no deep DLR love.

Kintzler is legitimately one of the worst pitchers I've ever seen in a Cubs uniform. Maybe I'm being irrational but I hate this dude beyond measure

We should change the expletive/horse feathers filter to Kintzler just like we did Howry.

At least we had some good times with Howry. He was useful before he got TERRIBLE

That fan rushing the field and getting to the mound when he was out there and then having an oh horsefeathers moment when he realized Howry would beat his ass is still one my favorite all time Cubs moments

I found this excerpt in an article about the guy who charged Howry. It was published in spring training 2008. How far we have come...

Jason Marquis has a 43-28 career record before All-Star breaks and is 25-33 afterward. Piniella is at a loss as to why Marquis tends to fade in the second half of the season.

"He's an experienced pitcher, he has won 54 ballgames the last four years, and the second halves have not been good," Piniella said. "Last September was not good at all. But he's throwing the ball well. He pitches well early in the season, so that's a big advantage for him."

Perhaps Marquis tends to press in the second half, though why he would do that is unknown.

"I hope he doesn't put pressure on himself," Piniella said. "But at times last year he pitched really, really well, and then toward the end ... I don't have an answer, but that's something we're looking for."

oh god I forgot about Jason Marquis. He pitched like he, personally, hated me, but also ended up being basically average on the season. He was the first iteration of the Jason Hammel Type.

Frank Castillo was the first iteration of the Jason Hammel type

Yeah, Howry looked like the horsefeathering T-1000, and it was awesome having a couple of dead-eyed psychos like him and Lilly always lurking in the shadows. His legacy got tainted by that last year with the Cubs, but he was baller as horsefeathers those first two years.

Pretty sure this is also how Trump described Florence.

De La Rosa has been great in 17 appearances for the Cubs, to the point where I'm almost expecting him to be on the postseason roster in the pen. Looking at the options:

Strop (if healthy)

Edwards

Cishek

Wilson

Chavez

Monty

Rosario

De La Rosa

Kintzler

Garcia

Chatwood

Mills

Maples

I'd say Edwards, Cishek, Wilson, Chavez and Monty are locks, with Strop in if healthy, and the back of the pen going to 1 or 2 of Rosario, De La Rosa and Kintzler.

I feel like the last pitcher on the roster is only there in case of extreme emergency like a marathon extra inning game or to eat up innings in a blowout. Hasn't there been a pitcher on each NLCS roster that basically did nothing?

Monty moving from the rotation to the pen is a big boost (obviously). That would've happened with Morrow and/or Strop anyway. But it still bolsters the pen a good bit.
