Best case Baez, Contreras, Schwarber, Lester and Morrow. Bryant a very slight possibly if he happened to be voted in after his hot start. Zobrist and Almora could make cases but almost certainly won’t be under strong consideration.

Rosenthal picks rosters by the rules but ignoring likely voting: https://theathletic.com/421830/2018/07/05/rosenthal-playing-by-the-rules-here-are-my-sometimes-cringeworthy-picks-for-the-all-stars-teams/

He also has a handful of 'unfortunate omissions' for each position. He put Baez, Schwarber, and Lester in, with Contreras, Bryant, and Almora as unfortunate omissions.

Generally I don't get too caught up in who does or doesn't make the All-Star team, but I'm super excited that Javy and Willy will be there.

Also super happy how mad their selection is making people who have no idea how well they're doing this year.

this is Salvador Perez's SIXTH all star game?!?

clearly, by Cards fan logic, he is a hall of famer.

Glad there is only 3 guys.. Get as much rest as possible for the rest of the guys

Right now Lester is scheduled to pitch Friday (if they skip Chatwood with the off day Thursday) or Saturday. So Lester likely wont be on the team and be replaced since he’s on either 2 or 3 days rest for the all star game. Which is good, let him go and enjoy the festivities if he wants but save some bullets and get more rest.

The only pitchers who are replaced are the ones that start on Sunday. Given that Tuesday would be his bullpen day he was almost certainly be available to give an inning if he is asked

I want Javy to dong in this thing so bad. Maybe make a Javy Play on defense and win MVP too.

A repeat of his WBC shenanigans would do nicely

I want a Javy Tag or Javy Swim Move.

That NL outfield...woof.

I mean Harper is awesome but has had a horrible first half. And then a couple of old turds who've had a hot stretch. It's especially glaring when compared to Trout, Betts, and Judge, which is maybe the best outfield of all time.

Slow down there. Many of the All-Star games in the 50’s had an NL outfield of Mays, Aaron, and Musial.

I don't care enough to dig into it, but I imagine the seasons Trout, Betts, and Judge are having would be tough to match, even for those 3.

This almost feels like the PED era again with people in their 30s having career years and making the All-Star game.

Crawford (31)

Markakis (34)

Kemp (33)

Ramos (31)

Mooreland (32)

Brantley (31)

Choo (36)

Happ (35)

Players in their 30s make it all the time but all these guys are either making their first All-Star team, having a resurgence after some down seasons or are making some sort of leap at a late age.
