I'm going to say it: Heyward has looked significantly improved this season.

Oooo sorry Duker beat you to that by a couple of hours, and he provided pretty charts as evidence

I make it a point to not get too excited or too disappointed in anybody until about Memorial Day, but Heyward has me cautiously optimistic.

Not surprised! Just seems like he's had a better up the middle/oppo approach, AKA not hitting everything on the ground to 2B or popping it up. Also, more patience at the plate.

as nice as it would be for heyward to be fixed, the idea that javy could be a superstar on the bryzzo plane is far far more fun for me to fantasize about

Heyward's long play is becoming clear. Put up God-awful seasons, lower the bar, then impress everyone by returning to league-average OPS. Brilliant.

Love it. Javy has started to fall in love with the rollover grounder to second with a runner on third and less than two outs. I horsefeathering approve.

The BABIP gods are smiling on us tonight

We have 4 DONGS and a bunch of other hits at 90+ MPH. It’s not BABIP tonight.

Many hard hit balls that are also sneaking between infielders for hits.

I know at some point Steve Cishek is going to blow a game and I'll get mad, but man he has been a badass so far this year.

I say as he gives up a double off the wall

Hard hit balls going for hits doesn’t seem like a lucky thing to me.

Except that when the Cubs hit screaming line drives right at fielders, we cry about bad luck, so.....

That is bad BABIP luck though. Do you know what BABIP luck is?

If we hit the ball hard it should go for hits, when they don’t go for hits that’s bad luck. When soft contact finds holes for hits that’s good luck (if it’s us hitting).

We’ve mostly hit the ball hard tonight and the balls have been going for hits like they should be. That’s not luck, that’s what’s suppose to happen.
