I know some of you think I’m crazy, but I love the rest of the division being so competitive. I feel like it gives the Cubs legitimacy and makes them play meaningful games that prepare them for the post season.

Didn’t we win the World Series in the year where the division was at its least competitive in recent years?

Absurd. Do you also hope the Cubs somehow end up in the WC to prove themselves?

That brutal stretch of games for the VBs coming out of the ASB has not really been that brutal. They've played about equal to the Cubs, who've had a pretty light schedule over the same period.

They're 4 back in the loss column, though. Continuing to play "about equal (but still worse)" than the Cubs is a good outcome for the Cubs.

Except, the general thought was the Brewers would stumble with a difficult stretch, and the Cubs would benefit from a weaker schedule....thus increasing their lead. Not only have they not really increased their lead, but they've allowed the Cardinals to get back in the mix.

The Cardinals are not in any mix

Criticize it and dismiss it all you want, but the great dark purge seems to have really lifted morale in that clubhouse.

Eh, I think it was getting rid of the old clueless whitey-in-charge, i.e. this guy:

There is no doubt in my mind that he was 90% of their problems.

Yup.

Maybe 90% is too high. If you combine Greg Holland + Mike Matheny then maybe you get up to 90% lol.

Also...teams just can go on streaks. It wasn't too long ago everyone was all "omg the PIrates have won 11 in a row and are back in it!" and here we are...they're 10 games back now.

VBs jump out to a 4-0 lead after 1 inning against Sal "Don't Call Me Corky" Romano. Reds come back and lead 6-5 and still batting in top of the 4th, bags juiced, Saurez up.

“Allowed the Cardinals to get back in the mix” = going .570 in August while the Cardinals go .810.

I’m going to go way out on a limb here and say that only one of those trends is going to continue
