Huh, that goes against Hoges tweet earlier.

I think we need to see the rest of the guarantees spelled out to really understand it. What's the signing bonus, what salary is guaranteed each year, etc. Right move to match, but the backloaded part seems to favor GB more than us, thought I heard Rodgers is getting an extension any day now which should be $30MM/yr.

Updated this for Bray/Lynch signings and my take on rosters spots that still need to be addressed

Offense (25)

QB (3): Trubisky, Daniels, Bray

RB (4): Howard, Cohen, ______#3, Cunningham --- I think we need to spend a late round pick getting a Howard backup and let Cunningham be the Cohen backup.

WR (6): Robinson, Meredith, Gabriel, White, _______#5, Bellamy --- 1-4 is pretty clear at this moment with room for a draft pick to come in and develop while also keeping Bellamy on ST.

TE (4): Burton, Shaheen, Sims, Brown --- Sims is going to remain a Bear after $4M of his salaryt was guaranteed yesterday

OL (8): Leno, Kush, Whitehair, Long, Massie, Sowell, Grasu/#2C, Morgan/#2G --- Would love to push Kush back to the top interior backup by picking up a G or at least make him compete against the other in house options or a draft pick.

Defense (25)

5T (4): Hicks, ______, Robertson-Harris, Bullard --- Need someone to step into Unrein's spot. Maybe RRH/Bullard can do it, maybe not.

NT (2): Goldman, _____ --- Really need a capable backup behind Goldman. Losing him a couple years back really hurt this defense.

OLB (5): Floyd, _____, Lynch, Acho, _____ --- Acho is a capable backup; Lynch is all potential; Floyd hasn't made it through a full season. We need to pick up two players who can make a real contribution. If the right player is there I think this is the #8 pick,

ILB (4): Trevathan, Kwiatkowski, ______, Anderson/#4 --- Anderson is a #5 in my world. Need some depth here or Edmunds bumps down Kiatkowski a notch.

CB (3): Fuller, Amukamara, ______ --- Cooper's gone and we have a space to develop a draft pick here.

Slot SB (2): Callahan, LeBlanc

S (5): Jackson, Amos, Bush/#3, Hall/#4, Houston-Carson --- We've got two starters and three special teamers here. Some depth to develop would be a good idea.

Special Teams (3):

K: Parkey

P: O'Donnell

LS: _______

Are you talking about the 4th year cap figure or the dead cap?

I read that as his salary was $18.5 guaranteed in year 4. Is it that by year 4, $18.5 mill is the TOTAL guaranteed over the 4 years? I dont have a good understanding of how to read that.

The guarantee looks to be a traditional 18m signing bonus, so it's split 4.5 over each year for the cap hit. Then the annual salary each year gives your total cap hit.

So reading the tweet, the difference between cap and 4.5m is the annual, non guaranteed salary. It's "dead" changes by 4.5 each year, basically they amortized the guarantee over 4 years.

The way it's structured, many are calling it, effectively, a guaranteed 2/29 contract.

Leming says we still have close to 30 (though you gotta allocate about 7 for the rookies) and Robinson's first year cap is 11. We have a lot of room for the 2nd wave and to lock in Goldman and probably Amos as well. We are so well positioned to go BPA.

I'm looking for Nelson but I have a feeling he won't be there. After that, Edmunds, Ward, or Landry would be pretty horsefeathering sweet. I really love the ceiling on Edmunds and if he pans out he'd get his 2nd contract at the ripe age of 24, which is just amazing.

Drop some decent coin on Vinny Curry on a 2 year deal?

Probably overrated based on past pedigree, but could Jonathan Cooper be a bargain hunting G for the line? Not a lot of young/good names on the OL market. The D interior is another spot, but looks pretty barren after Suh. ILB has a just a lot of old dudes left.

Lot of interesting DB names left, even though that's obviously not a big need now.

i wonder why

I wonder if it has something to do his concussions problem and Bears want to help him out medical-wise? Maybe they're trying to still pay him while he doesn't play again and not retire until contract is up? Kinda like what baseball do with their injury insurance thing, I know Albert Belle for example still got paid a portion of his contract while he basically retired due to his hip.

According to Rotoworld, Freeman was released on February 20th. I also seem to recall he was either the first or the second official release of the offseason.

why give up a roster spot for that

I wonder if we were in on Claybourn; if not, I wonder why. He might have simply wanted to go to a top dog. But at 2/12 I think we should have been all over him. I would like to bring in Jordan Matthews to give Mitch yet another weapon and add needed depth.

I expect a couple LB signings also. There's nothing great out there but that could change after cuts. Bowman has been floated by a couple guys and I'd be totally down with that. He is cheap and not totally washed up yet.

Anxious to see what moves Pace makes.

Because you have 90 of them right now.

I'm not the biggest Allen Hurns fan but I'm all for getting in mostly functioning younger WRs who have shown flashes of success in the past. Wonder if Hurns signing would lead to White being cut? Robinson-Hurns-Meredith-Rookie (I presume)-cheaper WR5?

Edit: Totally forgot about Gabriel. And apparently Meredith is on an original round tender and visited the Colts today. Can't imagine they let him walk, but I guess it's an option. So bringing in Hurns would either see White gone or potentially no rookie drafted. Interesting.

My guess is they'll roll with what they've got, along with a 4th round pick probably. My guess is they're hoping a team gives Meredith an offer sheet, so they can match, like Fuller.

Cutting White doesn't save them a penny, so there's no reason to cut him honestly, unless you need a roster spot. And that's not for a while.....

With this offense, Cohen and Burton are going to be prevalent too. I think they're going to be fine with Robinson and Gabriel, with Meredith, White and a later pick as the 5th. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they'll bring in some guys, but I doubt anything more than a minimum contract.....

That said, I'd like to add him AND a pick still. We've got the cap space to do quite a bit more still.
