Luke Gregerson getting the same $$$ and years as Brandon Morrow is hilarious to me.

Half the money.

Oh whoops, you're right

Can we all just appreciate how amazing it must be to be a reliever in professional baseball these days?

Morrow had a 7.00+ ERA, 1.5 WHIP, and gave up more than 11 hits per nine in AAA....last year.

Pretty happy with this signing. A little worried about how Maddon uses his best reliever/closer in high leverage situations and/or when he loses faith in a couple relievers during parts of the season.

B. Morrow will need adequate rest and careful monitoring to be effective. I think we'll have to limit his workload here and there to make sure he's good to go come playoff time.

Great contract. Now, we can move on from W. Davis.

I keep coming back to doing a deal with the Braves. Surplus to surplus match ups can lead to good value for both teams.

Only if we trade for Ian Anderson and can call him Jethro.

Call him Poopsie, just get him.

At this point, now that we've got Morrow.....I think I want Wade back. Go huge on a 2 year deal and see if he'll bite. 2/36 or even 2/40.

Then trade for Archer and replenish whatever you lost in that. Off season over. But, only if you can do it without Javy or Addy.

Yeah, I'm old. Figured that one was a bit obscure.

Len would know it, though.

I'd wager good money against Davis making it healthy through his next deal. It may be irrational, but I have less confidence in his health than Morrow's. I certainly don't want them together.

I want Jake McGee on a cheap deal

If McGee and Cobb would give us a Maddon/Hickey discount, I'd be thrilled with the remainder of the offseason.

Posted

Yeah, I assume they'll go after McGee next. Then maybe a 1-year deal for some veteran who slips through the cracks like Oh or Neshek.

Also, I would love for the Cubs to pick Nick Burdi in the Rule 5 draft. He'll be easy to stash since he's coming off TJS and would likely be a nice, cheap potential high leverage arm for 2019.

Ian Anderson, lead singer for Jethro Tull. (I'm old, too.)

Me too. He's was fourth on my list of ideal off season moves.

Chatwood, Ohtani, Morrow, McGee.

I don't think he will come on a cheap deal, however. Depends on what you mean by "cheap", I guess.

I doubt he gets to us, but this would be excellent.

Good points I’m guessing the FO/coaching staff have similar thoughts and use ideas. That being said, go bring Wade back and go with super bullpen of death.

Finish signing Morrow and Cobb, trade Happ for Hand, sign your backup C and OF of choice, go home happy.

Have SD throw Carter Capps into that trade and I'm happy.

Carter Capps is absolute garbage. I'm not as high on Happ as som but he's worth so much more than Brad Hand.

There's always the ol' "Josh Hamilton" trade up option...

Yeah, that's probably their only chance. He should go in the top few picks.

Cubs saying horsefeathers you to injury history when comes to their free agent signings so far...

Chatwood and Morrow have good stuff, elite by some metrics, but man they are a roll of the dice in the health department.

I really wonder if they're going to overload the rotation and play games with the 10 day DL this year since the Dodgers got away with it last year. But that would mean they'd have to have at least one guy who could be optioned.

Starting to wonder this as well and go with a 13-man staff. 6-man rotation of Lester/Hendricks/Q/Cobb/Chatwood/Monty bullpen of Morrow/Carl/Strop/Wilson/FA (Mcgee/Nicasio/Neshek/Oh)/then revolving door of the last 2 spots in bullpen between Grimm/Maples/Zas/Tseng/FA or Trade guy with options/etc.

They'd have to acquire about 4 more guys to do that.
