The Dodgers aren't in our division. I really don't give a rat's ass who they get. And they're going to be really good regardless.

its all fun and games until the dodgers trade joc pederson and some trash A-ball guys for stanton in late january.

Yep, I'm with imb. The Dodgers better not get Stanton or Ohtani.

MLB.com: Source: Dodgers in mix on Stanton talks

I'm going to chalk this up to your Dodger hate from being a non Dodger fan living in LA. The Dodgers improving by a win or two (if they do) is going to have a negligible impact on our championship hopes. It's a massively better outcome than him going to St. Louis.

I guess you could go the other way in thinking on it... The Cubs are about 32 games better than the Cardinals over the last 2 1/2 seasons. Will Giancarlo Stanton make a big enough difference for the Cardinals? Or could taking on a lodestone of a contract and trading away prospects just as the Cubs' cost-controlled superstars enter their prime years be the exact type of thing we should be hoping the Cardinals do?

Obviously, the question hinges on how much of the contract the Cards have to take on and how much they have to empty their system of prospects.

I don't think it can be overstated how ugly Stanton's contract has the potential to be. He'll still be owed $180M five years from now after he turns 33!

The Cardinals are in the division. Keep the good players away from them.

The Mariners announced that they’ve acquired first baseman Ryon Healy from the division-rival Athletics in exchange for right-hander Emilio Pagan and minor league infielder Alexander Campos.

Good return for the A's. Campos was a big IFA signing and Pagan had a really good season as a reliever.

Also means Vogelbach is kept buried on the depth chart.

A few NSBBers might make good GM's after all.

Jed Hoyer surely sends some sort of spanking it GIFs.

Surely.

Although, "That's what the money is for" is the first one I thought of that must get used a lot.

The Giants made an offer for Stanton and are willing to take on a good chunk of his contract according to Rosenthal

Given that the Cubs aren't getting him, I could definitely live with Stanton in San Francisco.

Wait...you're gonna live with Stanton in SF? :)

If he goes to StL, the contract would impact them for many years, especially if they have to give up a couple pitching prospects. They wouldn't be big on any future FA signings either. He also needs to stay healthy.

That's the one team all along that was likely to eat most of the contract. Problem is, will the Marlins settle, prospect wise? Heliot Ramos is probably their most intriguing upside candidate, with Steven Duggar a close 2nd perhaps. There just isn't much unless one really likes Christian Arroyo.

I assume they would offer a few options - the more the Marlins eat of the contract, they can select 2-3 of the following players. The less the Marlins eat, they get 1-2, and so on.

Stanton to the Cards has some big implications, but a ton of hurdles. He's obviously a huge offensive force and a huge contract, not to mention he will likely be limited defensively in the latter years of his contract. It's definitely an interesting risk/reward.

But the team I'm actually scared of seeing connected to the Cards is the Blue Jays. Kelly, Kolten Wong, Weaver, Reyes, Alcantara would all be very appealing targets if Toronto decides to deal Stroman/Sanchez, Osuna, and/or Donaldson. They seem like a disturbingly perfect set of trade partners. I do not want to see Stroman or Sanchez in a Cardinals uniform.

Phillies released Mark Appel today.

In a parallel universe, Appel won Rookie of the Year and a Cy Yong for the Cubs while Kris Bryant got released from the minors after flaming out.

Is his arm completely broken or what? If it’s not he’d be a nice reclamation try even though his numbers suck. I think his stuff is still really good when he’s on.

Bobby Wahl was released by the A’s, he’s put up some pretty big K numbers in the minors (tho SSS in some cases) he was up for 7 innings last year and his Fb averaged 95 and looks like a primarily FB/Slider pitcher with a occasional curve and changeup. As a minor league depth bullpen guy he’s worth looking at, imo.
