Avila started on Friday, so today only makes 5 games without him playing. I was a little surprised he didn't pinch hit instead of Russell, but maybe they felt that if they were burning the bench to nothing, that they wanted Russell to PH where he wasn't going to play the field after even in emergency. Does seem like he might have a knock if he hasn't even pinch hit after tonight though.

Yeah it could just be randomness and wanting other guys to PH. But seems like there’s been more than one chance for him to at least get a PH opportunity since Friday that he hasn’t been called upon (also not starting tonight is kinda odd, since he’s gonna be the backup catcher in the playoffs and may even start a game or 2 and Rivera won’t be on the roster).
