Well it's August, not yet but it will be, and our World Champion Chicago Cubs are sitting in first place at a season high 8 games over .500.

Welcome to the team Justin Wilson and Alex Avila!!

I moved to 2-0 as game thread starter. They weren't the prettiest offensive games but I helped the Cubs with improbable rallies. Bryant HLS RBI then a GW HR by Heyward followed by a GW HR by Victor Caratini and a "close and late HR by Bryant. As game thread starter Bryant is picking up stats that aren't empty and proving he can be an asset, hopefully he keeps it up.

Speaking of keeping it up Jake has been great lately...not God mode Jake but Jake is pitching we got this mode Jake. It's got to be the haircut.

Nevermind it's another pitcher with little to no hair up top, he's looking to keep it up though after bouncing back from the pre all star breaking outing vs Pittsburgh to win his last 3.

Score early and often and win, Cubs!

Let's see 56-48=8. You're right! Thanks! My excuse is when I opened Cubs dot com on my phone it must've still said 55-48 for a little bit before it updated. haha

can someone confirm the cubs are actually playing on 8/1?

at this point I'm questioning if they are actually a baseball team

But there's no question they're in first place, ahead of the vaunted Brewers.

Got a tough little stretch of games the next couple weeks or so (even though the Giants suck, weird stuff happens out west) so hopefully we can maintain good baseball playing.

That made me check in on our friend Derek Law, and it warms my heart to see that he's been sent to the minors since mid June.

Eyes full of tears will get you a 1.7 WHIP REAL fast.

If he's like me, that was the moment it went from 'cautiously optimistic but still not feeling great' to 'holy horsefeathers we're going to do this aren't we'?

1st and 2nd 0 outs down 3 is a good start but so many things could still go wrong, but 2nd and 3rd 0 outs down 2 and all the sudden a base hit ties it (thanks Willy!)

I will be at the final game in San Francisco, but In all games I have seen in person in Chicago and San Francisco over the last 2 years whether I was pulling for the Cubs or Giants (obviously when they were playing a different team), my team has lost. This included the game in Chicago the night they lost but clinched the division last year (that was a sucky drive home), and game 3 of the NLDS last year.

So, either I'm cursed, or I'm due for my team to win.
