i think you guys misunderstood truffle. He knows that Wade won't pitch tomorrow because Lackey is starting so thank goodness we got the win tonight.

Wade set his career high for wild pitches in a season tonight. Are we asking him to bury more curves than he had in the past, or is this probably a result of going from Perez to Contreras?

Actually, sorry, didn't realize he had 7 in 2013. But he'd have to not throw 2 more for this season to not surpass that. That seems unlikely.

not used to truffle being all extreme meatball

Yeah, it's the only reason I even responded. Wasn't expecting that out of Truffle.

unreliable closers bring out the meatball from deep within.

Davis hasn't allowed a single run this season when he's pitched in a 2-run or closer game. He's never blown a lead for the Cubs. He's been the second most effective closer in baseball after Jansen.

Wade Davis "bad" appearances

Cubs win 5-4

6/11 v. Col - Entered the game up 7-4

1.0IP, 2H, 1ER

Cubs win 7-5

6/16 @ Pit - Entered the game up 9-4

1.0IP, 3H, 1BB, 1ER

Cubs win 9-5

6/26 @ Was - Entered the game up 5-0

2/3IP, 3H, 1BB, 2ER

Cubs win 5-4

7/17 @ Atl - Entered Game up 4-1

Those 5 appearances are the only times he gave up more than 1 hit and/or 1 walk in an appearance, all with at least a 3 run lead.

I'm fascinated by this take. Like I get emotions run high late in close games, but I kind of thought "Wade Davis is awesome" is the most widely agreed upon things among Cubs fans. I think more non-NSB Cubs fans would bitch about Bryant and his numbers with RISP over the last 1.5 years than complain about Davis.

And so do good closers, apparently.

Seems fairly simple to me , the two best Cubs not named Rizzo are horsefeathering horrible

And if it weren't for Rizzos current hot st reak, he'd be e qually terrible

Didn't see it posted here, but saw on Twitter that Lester was first Cubs P to have an XBH, walk and steal in the same game since Charlie Root in 1930. Pointless, but fun.

Also, Lester has to hit a dong one of these times. He's had a few ABs where he's just ripped the ball.

For a split second I thought Lackey owed him a new Mercedes. I think that's their bet?
