Well, now I just think he's a wimp for how much he Paul Pierce-d it up last night.

Maybe he just didn't wanna play with the rest of those bums.

So dumb. It's only a 10-day DL now.

Why is it dumb if he can return by this weekend?

Might as well get it all rested up rather than take the risk that he reinjures it or makes it worse. There's only 9 games left until the AS break after this, just rest him until then. It's not like anyone is going to run away with this division if the Cubs struggle.

For as smart as our FO is, it seems like they really are not smart at using the 10-day DL. This is the 4th time now they should've used it off the top of my head. Zobrist, Russell, Heyward and now Bryant. I know Zobrist/Heyward are on it now but they should've gone on sooner. And yeah, in regards to KB I'd rather him get nearly 2 weeks off (skip the ASB) and be really rested/healthy rather than get this last week out of him at not 100%.

I'm pretty sure they're really horsefeathering smart about everything so there was probably good reasoning for those decisions when they were made. Or maybe some borderline calls for them that they decided to try to go with the aggressive route rather than the safe route on.

I mean yeah, its easy to play armchair GM. I'm sure they know way more than any of us but just seems like some questionable things this year with the 10 day. Especially with the emphasis they, themselves, have talked about in the past about maximizing player rest and everything. The 10 day DL seems made for them. Like you said maybe the alternative routes just weren't there with other injuries/poor performances. Zobrist really stands out to me. It was a good week+ at least we knew about the wrist injury before he hit the DL, they are always so careful with him getting rest (which is smart) with off days around scheduled off days, etc that it seemed so weird they didn't 10 day him right away with the wrist. Addy with the shoulder deal is right up there too, if he's hurting to be held out for 3ish day stretches at a time just DL and make sure he's totally fine. Which he doesn't seem to be since it's flaired up twice at least with no DL time.

Bryant only got hurt last night, so it's pretty early to criticize the DL/no DL decision. Heyward only has a cut, and they put him on the DL after giving him 3 days to heal and then discovering it was worse than expected. That seems like about the right balance to me, I don't want them DLing everyone the moment they need to miss a game or 2 and forfeiting the option to have those guys back sooner, but you do have to balance going short handed on the bench. Russell and Zobrist are less clear cut, but those are also shoulder injuries which are tricky to evaluate(especially in Zobrist's case since it was mostly with hitting from one side of the plate), but I see the argument more that they could have been DLed/DLed sooner.

also PTR isn't going to pay for another no advance purchase flight out to DC.

But damn...that cut.

that's not a "cut". that looks like someone took sandpaper and raked it back and forth along his hand for like 2 hours.

crazy that he got that hurt on a sliding attempt at a foul ball that a) if I am remembering the play correctly, he didnt really have a great chance of catching and b) the type of slide he made didn't really increase his chances at catching the ball.

But then again I'm posting in a thread that was started because another one of our guys got injured catching a routine popup so I guess its not all that crazy.

It looks like a big blister that was filled with blood and it got ripped off.

Don't see what the problem is with the way they treated Heyward. And TT makes a valid point that Russell's injury makes it tough to disable. But the way they acted with Zobrist was silly.
