They chose a direction. I like that. LaVine will be around long term.

I wanted more. Don't get me wrong. I think we probably overvalued Jimmy. Or GarPax took an offer that we think was less than some other ones. Which wouldn't surprise me.

Now, fire GarPax.

This is such a confounding post. Man, you really have dug your heels in on this.

I said I wanted a rebuild. No reason to back off that. I'm not overwhelmed with the return. Its still better than the idea of being .500ish again.

You know of anyone wanting GarPax back?

When you have a front office like Theo and Jed, you can usually trust that when a deal is made, it was the best deal out there to be made. You cannot do the same with GarPax. They haven't earned that benefit of the doubt in terms of trade negotiations or player evaluations. You can't just look at this trade, shrug your shoulders and say, "welp, guess we overrated Butler and this was the best deal out there."

Theo and Jed also do a good job of valuing their own players and drawing hard lines when teams don't meet that value in their trade offers. GarPax aren't known for that either. If the offers aren't out there, it's a good time to walk away.

Also, GarPax aren't likely getting fired. Reinsdorf is loyal to a fault. But "now fore GarPax" is an interesting sentiment *after* they've completed (and completely fucked up) the most important deal the organization had to make in any kind of rebuild.

But hey, we got three rotation players out of the deal once we sweetened the pot (that already included the best player in the deal by a wide margin) by adding a first round pick. And now we get to spin the wheel of fortune for the next five years.

It's seriously like the Cubs pulling off a successful rebuild with the smartest guy in the sport overseeing it has led people to believe that, for the Bulls and Bears, it's as easy as getting rid of all of your good players and losing for a few years.

I WOULD have fired them long ago. But, they're here. And you're right, maybe for a while.....

I'd still prefer this path, understanding that they're likely overseeing it. I don't think they're competent for EITHEF direction, so I'd rather get the eventual rebuild under way.

But yeah, if Theo and Jed were doing it.....Deng would have been dealt for more than what turned into a 2nd. Gasol would have been dealt. Taj would have been dealt for something else. And we would have probably dealt Jimmy last year. Plus, we'd have found ways to buy other picks.

I just don't get applauding them for "picking a direction" when literally the first step they took in that direction, they fell flat and their face and then horsefeathers all over themselves while they were still laying on the ground. Good job?

And before anyone starts in with the return.....I

This is odd

I'm just glad they started the rebuild instead of wasting another season of hopeful mediocrity. Again, I'm not a huge fan of the return. But I do like LaVine. He's a gamble right now, but I'm OK with that. I HAD liked Dunn. Its not inconceivable he's able to turn into a solid point. And I like Markkonen.

That said, I expected a future pick or two, plus keeping 16.(assuming we were dealing with Minnesota and those guys were in the deal)

I'd have preferred dealing with Phoenix. I don't think Boston had any real intention to get him, or they would have him.

How do garpax work with Thibs for years and know about his hard on for Jimmy and hatred for rookies and think they needed to to throw in #16 to get the deal done

Thank God they picked a direction, decided to rebuild and immediately traded away a mid 1st rounder

To me, this is better than them saddling us with some stupid contract in FA, being a 35-45 win team, then taking much less than even THIS, at this time next year for Jimmy.

Solid backup point?

Obviously, that's more likely than anything more than that, at this point. But, I thought he had star capability last year before the draft. Nothing to do but hope he bounces back after a shitty first year.

From what I'm reading the Timberwolves would go higher than Rubio/Lavine until the 16 pick was included. Which is awful. You've done poorly at your job if the best offer you get for a top 15 player is that

I think most likely is he never sees another guaranteed deal.

I'd feel better if he was like a 1 and done that had a rough first year. But the dude is a redshirt junior that had an awful first year. He will be 24 next year. That is alarming

saw it now

well i'd be happy if he opted out at this point

wait no what am i saying

i don't care about this team anymore

unless this dude turns out to be porzingis and everyone is fired

Look, let me say it like this.....Because I'm VERY well aware that being that one guy going against an entire group of well informed guys who's opinions I respect, is almost always a dumb move.....

I hate GarPax. There's not a post on this or any other board where I say anything remotely positive about them. To me, I'll take THIS result over standing pat and getting less later. Probably adding a player that'd be hard to move in the future.

In my mind, its taking the right path, even if the result wasn't truly what I was hoping for, as the return. In the end, its just getting a slight jump on what was inevitable.

Are these idiots going to truly capitalize off this? Almost assuredly not. But, that's why I mentioned hoping they'll get fired by this time next year.

Again, I'm so low on them and the org, I'll admit that I'd basically have been OK with just about any movement towards rebuilding. Because I'm never one to want to stay in the middle.

The Bulls did realize they didn't have to trade Butler, right?

This. Again I've been on Team Blow It Up but this is not an acceptable return for him IMO. And then they blow the pick that they did acquire (IMO). My opinion is that they could have gotten similar or better value at the deadline and/or built around him.

i still can't believe this is actually real

you can't make up a worse return than this

two shitty players and a pick swap for a top 15 player on a reasonable contract

in my wildest don't trade jimmy nightmares i could not have come up with this
