DUKE, USE YOUR POWERS FOR GOOD.

This whole team sucks. It is a bag of asses. It won't be long before Bryant and Rizzo join the others in suckitude.

I just can't recall a team who has under performed as badly as this one has so far. They may end up 20 games worse than last year and the roster should have been slightly better, I just don't get it. Thank god this division is just awful.

i've decided that i've 50 percent meatball personality at the moment and 50 percent teaming up with duke.

this team is a bunch of pansies. they suck. they are horrible baseball players and - more importantly - horrible human beings. they don't deserve my attention (and that's saying a LOT because it doesn't take much to get my attention). a disgrace to the game and i hope ken burns makes a documentary about how terrible this team is and how they are the worst team to ever wear a baseball jersey.

commence the comeback, now.

At some point I feel like the whole RISP thing should start to even out, but we are almost halfway thru the season and have just been consistently pathetic the whole way.

Closer to a third of the way (37 percent), but otherwise agree.

Didn't they weirdly have that stick out last year (and not just in the "well, we get a ton of guys on base so we leave a ton of guys on base"-way), too? Or was that 2015?

It was 2015(recall the hand wringing about high K guys against the power pitchers/Mets), and they were much better in 2016, the Verducci book talks about how they had an increased emphasis on 'B-hacking', a shorter swing with 2 strikes that cut out some K's and made them less prone to killed rallies. Hard to say if they lost that emphasis, it's statistical noise(even 60 games isn't a ton for this stuff to even out), or if pitchers have a new/better way of attacking some of those hitters.

Yeah, that sounds familiar now. Thanks.

Butler pitches 6 shutout innings, Cubs win 2-1.

I might have just finished eating a special brownie.

After becoming one with my couch, and upon further reflection, this was a bad take.

We'll probably get shut out with the wind blowing out 30 MPH while Alexi Amarista and some guy named Tapia hit homers.

only fake pessimism allowed in this game thread. please observe. thanks
