Was going to try and make a positive post but Molina just went deep on us for a second time today so cancel that. This is embarrassing.

Wainwright has 7 starts before today and allowed 4+ ER in 5 of them (2 ER in each of the other 2 - one earlier in season vs Cubs) and pitched longer than 5.1 IP once.

We are getting dominated by a guy pitching with a fork sticking out of his back.

Furthermore, he hasn't at all pitched well today. He's walking guys, should have walked more, the Cubs have hit about 4 atom balls, 2 BS double plays, and has given up the leadoff base runner in almost every inning. Really tough to watch.

have you considered stopping watching the games?

No.

Yeah I'm encouraged by Schwarber to be honest. But the team is a complete mess right now.

They'll go on a tear soon but Jesus this is painful

Will Addison Russell ever hit for average or is he kinda just who he is?

How many hitters stop developing at age 23?

Fecal League Standings incoming

Not until we have a negative RD. Still hanging in there at +2

But losing record says FL must happen

I'm sure I got the number of years wrong but apparently only 1 World Series winner in the last 20 years was under .500 at this point in their title season - 2003 Marlins.

So basically everyone shut it down and let's play for the #1 pick

We had a 20-25 stretch last year. Are we going to win 103 games again? No. But over 90? Yes.

After tomorrow, we don't have another day off until June 1st. But, our schedule is this....

3 vs Cincy

3 vs Milwaukee

4 vs SF

3@ LAD

3@ SD

Legitimately I suspect 10-6 over that stretch. Then we've got this stretch of games.....

3 vs STL

3 vs Mia

4 vs Col

I'll say we go 6-4 over that home stand. That would put us at 34-29.

Then, we've got this group of games....

3 @ NYM

3 @ Pitt

3 vs SD

4 @ Mia

I'll say 7-6 in that group, putting us at 41-35, heading into an important 4 game series in DC.

We're not hitting. We're not pitching. We WILL hit. We are pitching, with the exception of Jake, who may not. We've had the toughest NL schedule in baseball so far.

Its not ideal, but its about to get better soon.

Unless he just came to the league way too young, I think most players are pretty much who they are by their third big league season.

I don't know what he is/will be, but I do know he's not really this 71 wRC+ hitter with a .648 OPS. He's just been missing so many hittable pitches in the zone, but his K rate is down quite a bit at the same time. I'm disappointed as I thought he may take another step this year, but it should still get quite a bit better than this. Still, he probably shouldn't be batting 5th in this lineup either.

averaging 100 wins over the last 2 season was obviously incredible, but the downside of that kind of dominance is how awful it feels when you return to normal levels of competitiveness. i'm reading this whole post and all i can think is that it's 6 weeks of stuff just to get to 6 games over .500

The record sucks but I think it's how they've played that's the most jarring. Even in their wins, they look bad. I think they might be lucky to not be worse than they've played so far.

He's also not projecting them to really get hot either(nor would you want to guess sweeps and such). Right now the Cubs are about 3 games off a 95 win pace, it'll take a two week hot streak to get them back on that pace. My guess is that happens in June, when the schedule breaks a bit and some of the injuries and performance issues start to sort themselves out.
