Correct. It's unknown precisely why he killed Lloyd, but that's the general consensus, especially given that the attempted murder of his other friend was definitely for that reason.

The Deadspin article doesn't explain it very well, but from how I read it, it sounds like his past conviction is now void because he hadn't used up all his appeals. Therefore, any evidence used in the criminal case can't be used in any potential civil case going after his estate. Obviously they can just reintroduce everything, most likely coming to the same conclusion, but the article almost cited that as a potential reason for what happened last night. Not a lawyer, just how I read it.
