heyward's swing looks no different. it may even be worse bc he starts in his new stance then goes back to his old stance during the delivery

Yeah, I said the same thing when the videos were posted showing off his 'new swing' a couple of months ago. His adjustments looked like they might actually exacerbate his issues. Hope we don't have to weather a .600 OPS from our full time RF.

i'd just like to point out that i'm pretty sure our coaching staff and front office has a better idea of these things and if there were problems in the video from months ago that were that obvious, they probably know about them too.

i'm not usually the defer to authority guy but jeez. when it comes to scouting type evaluations of mechanics and whatnot, i'll go ahead and trust them for now and wait and see what the results actually are. not to mention the fact that heyward has always looked like a huge goof at the plate and was only awful last year.

yeah, I don't trust much of anyone online when it comes to mechanics breakdowns, most especially when we're poring over like 5 plate appearances. That said, the formerly Cubs Related dude thinks it's a positive change, which even if I don't care what he thinks, he does a good job of illustrating that it is in fact different: http://www.cubsinsider.com/2017/02/26/rundown-notes-heywards-new-swing/

Indians showing some new WS celebration footage I've not yet seen. If only the rest of our central rivals were as decent as the Indians' TV crew. ...although, how could they have not known the ball hit the camera on that 8th inning HR?! There was even a lego version of that I saw.

First time I've seen that horsefeathering HR from the camera that it hit. Still can't find it online, but I think I'm ok with that.

Didn't fox show that replay right after the HR was hit?

Yea, they did. I either didn't see it at the time or it broke my brain.

He hasn't really changed a thing. You don't have to be a hitting mechanic expert to see it. His hands start lower because in theory it's supposed to make it easier to create an upward swing plane. None of that matters when your hands go from that starting position to the exact same position they were going before.

Yes, the Cubs know more about all of this than me. That Cubs related guy on twitter absolutely does not. The Cubs also have an interest in making it appear like their $185m free agent doesn't actually suck at hitting baseballs.

Edit: In fact, Heyward looks even more jammed in the pic from this week than the one from the playoffs.

lol

yeah the cubs secret plan is convince everybody heyward doesn't suck for a couple months before the actual baseball games start!

i'll definitely put more stock into your analysis of a still image from a swing early in spring training.

in fact, hinske was working on him with nothing all offseason. he had all these obvious issues that all of us can plainly see in video clips and they basically made no progress on anything the whole time and then decided to have theo and joe lie about how it's all going.

edit - let's be clear. i'm not saying he's definitely or even probably fixed. i'm saying i'm pretty sure none of us are qualified to say so. understanding baseball and understanding analytics and all that like many of us do is one thing. understanding the nuances of "biomechanics" and crap like that is much more specialized and i feel safe in saying that 99% of the general population has little to no clue what they're talking aboutl

When it comes to what the organization says in public you don't think they'd church it up for a number of reasons?

The announcers in yesterday's game were both working Game 7 but not on the live radio call for the Indians. So they were in the park but not in front of a television. The one guy said he hasn't a watched a single highlight of that game this offseason (inferring because it would hurt him to watch them) until those ones they were showing yesterday during the broadcast.

Maddon gushed about Hannemann, saying he's dripping in talent. My biggest gripe with him has always been his age (and experience prior to the draft) but there have been plenty of late bloomers over the years so I'm not going to write him off yet. Hopefully he takes off at Iowa and becomes a coveted trade piece.
