CSN Chicago is showing the opening ceremonies from 5-7 pm tonight.

I went in 2004 and 2006 back when it was still at the Hilton. Good times, but a lot of old ladies from Iowa. I bet it will be a total shitshow this time.

About 10 years ago my mom bought me a pass. My wife and I went up for the weekend and each day I spent a few hours there (she didn't have a pass, she spent her time on Mich. Ave). I pretty much hated it. Lots of people, boring and predictable "interviews", awful Q&A from the audience, etc. I'm not really an autograph guy so that kind of thing wasn't a drawing card for me.

 

I get why the Cubs do it. I can't imagine what the crowds are going to be like this year, but it isn't for me.

but i do like watching the coverage on TV and i like the flurry of cubs news in mid january every year

It was cool going two years ago because Lester had just been signed and Montero traded for and it felt like the team could actually be good. Plus all the young studs (minus Rizzo) were still in the minors, so I got to see a minor league panel discussion with Schwarber, Russell, Carl Jr, etc.

 

This year is going to be insane, especially when they do the team intro. I mean, WS champs.....crazy. You'd have to be in the ballroom hours early just to get a standing spot

i was a huge mcrae fan when i was a kid. i had the same thought when i saw the list of attendees. i don't remember him attending in the past.

Just finished the opening ceremonies... was kind of bummed with the opening video (especially after CSN botched it), but the ending one more than made up for it. Wonder what happened to Rondon, he was listed as attending.

I wonder what the banner will be like...I'm thinking it might go up on the exterior, maybe on the west side by the plaza? Not really sure where it could go inside of Wrigley aside from those lame little flags along the upper deck. I guess they could do something along one of the walls in the field like some teams do. Guess we'll see.
