is 13 drops in 6 games even a relatively high total?

i'm thinking it is, but obviously it's not like you just turn them all into completions.

Yea, seems kind of pointless to add back in drops. Besides, did he see the Bears WRs last year? Our QB is going to have to overcome some drops lol.

Seriously. And if all his passes were more accurate, he would have had a 100% completion percentage. What a find!

If we keep Alshon, sign Gilmore, add a starting S via FA, and use the 3rd pick on something other than a QB, I think its between 6-10 wins. And I'd bet its 8 or more.

between 6-10 wins is a YUGE range that almost every team's expectations fit in.

the tweet is silly enough that it makes me want to question everything he ever says from now on

It is. But its almost definitely not bottom 5.

Make no mistake about it. Whatever the scenario, this team will be trash next year. A top 5 pick again next year is in the cards.

Can I bet you on that?

I'll say they'll pick outside the top 5.

What's the line? 6 wins? I'm confident due to the random thoughts below that could realistically happen:

-Glennon comes in and looks terrible and/or suffers injury (pocket passer/not very mobile) thus forcing whatever backup who likely won't be ready into game action. Do you trust Dowell to get a rookie ready? If that happens, Fox will also be ultra conservative thus contributing to more Ls.

-Offensive line taking a step back. The Tackles are iffy and Kyle Long is coming off of a 30 pound weight loss with a seemingly slow recovering ankle. He also didn't get surgery on his shoulder which could spell problems at that position with your best O-lineman.

-Average to below average WRs. Losing Alshon causes a major hole at WR. First year wideouts don't typically perform at a high level. Who will replace him?

-No TE option currently. Expecting average to below average production at that position this year.

-Checkdowns to Jeremy Langford?

-Dowell is an average to below average playcaller

I'm more optimistic on defense and I think the first round pick will be spent there. We could finish with a top 10-15 defense thanks to Fangio and giving him more talent to work with.

So I appreciate the Bears ending the Jets/Glennon nonsense early. Jets' whole goal should be landing Watson, not handing out a big deal to a backup turned FA starter.

Nobody cares about the Jets except Mike Greenberg and George RR Martin.

Not great Bob

Would rather have Bouye

Isn't Gilmore the better scheme fit? I know they had interest in Boyue last year, but that was at minimal salary.

They have interest this year, reportedly. Look a few posts up.

Yea I know, but I mean I think they preferred Gilmore, presumably because scheme fit... before it didnt go well.

I think the Gilmore preference is based mostly on his ability to get turnovers. Gilmore had 5 INTs this past year (14 career in 5 years). Bouye only had 1 last year and 6 in his career. I personally think Bouye is the better CB. He'll allow fewer plays against him. But Gilmore will make bigger plays on the ball. Rather have the guy that can cover better, but either is fine.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/ct-mike-glennon-comparisons-biggs-spt-0309-20170308-column.html

NFL coaches who know Mike Glennon are throwing around some eye-opening comparables in discussing the free-agent quarterback. If they prove anywhere close to reality, the Bears will get a bargain no matter what they pay.

All indications are the Bears will sign the 27-year-old after the free-agency period opens at 3 p.m. Thursday. That's what sources with multiple teams were hearing.

The Tribune reported last week that Glennon was the team's top target at the position, and his contract could average upwards of $14 million per year. The length of the expected deal is not known. Meanwhile, Brian Hoyer, the Bears' starter for five games last season, will sign a two-year contract with the 49ers.

There is a considerable gap between the public perception of Glennon and the opinions of people who know him.

"I think he is definitely a starting quarterback in the NFL," one head coach said. "I've always thought Glennon was a similar player skill-wise to Matt Ryan. That's my comparison. Now, Matt Ryan is a first-round pick who has started nine years. But I like this guy."

"Big arm and accurate," said a former Buccaneers assistant who spent time with Glennon. "He can move around enough for being a pocket thrower. Smart and people will gravitate to him quickly."

"Huge believer," another former Bucs coach said. "Sharp guy. Accurate. Tough. He is a legit NFL starter."

Sure, comparisons to Ryan, the reigning NFL MVP who led the Falcons to Super Bowl LI, seem over the top. But 80 percent as good as Ryan puts the Bears on a better path than they've been on, and Glennon's leadership qualities will set a different tone for the position than Cutler has since his arrival in 2009.

Some have called Glennon a better version of Kyle Orton, who had a 21-12 record as a starter on a Bears team with a very good defense. Obviously, whatever the Bears do they will still be in position to draft a quarterback next month.

If folks who have worked with Glennon love him this much, it becomes intriguing. The money, even if it reaches $15 million per season, ranks in the bottom third of the league for quarterback pay. Another source said the Bears have done deep background work on Glennon to learn about his four seasons in Tampa and how he was on the practice field, in the meeting room and in the locker room. Their goal was to learn everything there is to know about Glennon.

I don't know about that. Fangio likes to put his corners on islands so he can dial up creative blitzes. At least, that's what he'd like to do. Bouye is the better fit for that.

Isn't that the coverage scheme Gilmore has mostly ran under Pettine/Ryan defenses?

Missing out on Gilmore is ok if they get Logan Ryan, who is better. Sounds like Bouye is gone, too.
