No starter should have to go more than 5-6 innings or 100 pitches with the bullpen we are building/have built. It's like our offense, tons of depth, quality and interchangeable parts.

That...is a hell of a pen for 2017 if everyone is full strength.

Davis

Uehara

Rondon

Strop

Edwards

Grimm

Duensing / Leathersich / Zastryzny

Smith / Monty

Don't we still have Aaron Crow hanging around somewhere or is he gone?

Aaron Crow sucks and I don't care enough to see if he's still around. If we're reaching to Iowa for a right hander, it will be Pena.

Word is Uehara is only going to cost $4.5M.

I am guessing with him and Smith this pushes Monty to the starting rotation.

Monty was already pretty much in the starting rotation, unless we make a move for a starter that pushes him out of it.

Yeah that's true. I guess the only realistic name out there on the SP market that we could get who might be better than him is Tyson Ross. So it makes sense to just bulk up on relievers instead.

LOL, in a crap free agent crop the FO have shored up their biggest roster holes this offseason for another WS run without any monetary commitments beyond this year with surprisingly high quality players. Edited by Elrhino

At 42 Uehara put up the 2nd best K/9 of his career while also putting up the worst BB/9 of his career.

His 2.1 BB/9, however, would've ranked 2nd on the Cubs, behind Hector Rondon's 1.4 and tied with Kyle Hendricks' 2.1. The next lowest BB/9 in the pen belongs to Travis Wood at 3.5.

So yeah...

EDIT: His 12.1 K/9 would've been 3rd on the entire pitching staff of player with 25 or more innings pitched, behind Chapman and Edwards. Of pitchers with 40 or more innings, he would've been 1st

You'd almost think the team was run by really really smart guys who are better than everyone else at what they do.

Reading between the lines: BUMGARNER FOR 5TH STARTER

OK, as long as we agree not to extend this to a 5th year. No desire to add Romo.

There's some depth, but a LHRP capable of being one of the top 8 could still go a long way here.

Patton's gone to Japan.

Look at Uehara's splits.

Uehara and Grimm have reverse splits/are tough on lefties I'm fine with where we are at. If they are okay with his medicals it seems like Ross would be a nice final piece to the staff. He can take his time and start in Iowa and if/when an injury happens in the pen we could shift Monty there and put Ross in the rotation. Or just call him up when he forces his way up, put Monty in the pen and cut the rule 5 guy.

My guess is we're out on Ziegler now? I'll guess that Holland takes a gig he's got a chance to be the closer in? I'll guess we're still in on Blevins. If we add him, this is a pretty insane pen. It kind of is already.
