This is what I think of whenever someone complains about trading a good player

No one wants to take take Almora out back and shoot him. If you trade him, you're getting something comparably good back.

That being said, I don't think trading Almora makes sense in the Harper scenario. His defense and his lefty killer-ness make him a necessary compliment to a Schwarber-Heyward-Harper OF.

I don't get the lack of respect that you guys (and Maddon) have for Almora. Suggestions of trading him or making him a platoon player are ridiculous. Almora is leading the team in hitting and was hitting 100 points higher than Schwarber last year while Maddon "searched" for a leadoff man.

Joe respects Almora plenty.

Almora is 2nd on the team in games played and 7th in plate appearances. He’s batted leadoff in 32 games.

They also do a great job of playing him to favorable matchups. He — like Javy — is going to struggle vs certain right-handed profiles despite — like Javy — making improvement in that department.

And Almora had a .291 OBP with a 3.0 BB% vs righties last year. It was a major flaw and he shouldn’t have been batting anywhere but the bottom of the order vs them. Until this year, he was a lefty masher only. Hopefully his improvements are here to stay, but his BABIP vs righties is unsustainable and he’s walking under 5% of the time vs them. He’s gonna crank fastballs and mistakes still, but needs to show more than that consistently.

But it’s also a matter of finding everyone playing time and giving players days off. Almora is a starting MLB player, but so are Kyle Schwarber, Jason Heyward, Ben Zobrist, Javy Baez, Addison Russell, and Ian Happ. I think the position player usage has been handled very well.

The idea of Joe Maddon not respecting a player is also hilarious. The guy goes above and beyond what any manager does to sing the praises of his players and shield them from criticism.

Absolutely. Totally agree. I didn't realize he was like this in TB. It's nice, but sometimes he goes too far in providing cover for his players.

Over the past month, Harper has shaved his trademark beard, changed one of his walk-up songs -- he ditched Sam Hunt's "Body Like A Back Road" in favor of "Drunk On Your Love" by Brett Eldredge --

Pretty sure Rizzo uses that walk-up song, or at least did in the past. Harper is mind-fvcking Riz about replacing Bryzzo as the best BFF relationship on the Cubs next year....savage. Must be why Anthony is in a slump.

Yeah, but Harper is playing like butt seemingly as a show of solidarity with the even more butt-like Rizzo, so maybe he's trying to spin a whole love triangle thing.

He did/does and I think he’s like legit friends with Eldridge. Eldridge is a big cubs fan too and has done the anthem/stretch

Yeah his Cubs fandom and perhaps friendship with Rizzo was what I meant by the sign.

Eldredge is originally from Paris, IL. My g/f is his veterinarian here in town, she says he seems pretty cool on the surface. Terrible music though.

that is more than a bro hug. so much more

You're right.

My personal analysis: When the elbow goes past the midpoint of the torso from front to back (the imaginary line drawn from the armpit straight down to the top of the hip), you've surpassed the definition of a "bro hug" to something much more. Harper's right arm has clearly crossed that line and it appears Willy's right arm has done the same.

Clearly practicing for when they're teammates.

He called him “schwarbs” on sportscenter. Clearly they are best friends looking to have fun in the outfield together next year.

Bryce has more friends on the Cubs than Addison Russell has kids.

Give Addy some more time and he'll catch up.
