I don't get the "happy to be here" segment. Baseball is a weird game, and the Cubs, good young core and all, have obstacles to overcome going forward. Dex could leave. Four of the starters, three of the four in the post season, are on the wrong side of 30. Chapman could go back to the Yankees. The young guys need to keep developing, which is likely but not a given. They need to avoid injuries going forward.

Baseball is a hard sport to stay on top. All fans should want the win now, and stop with the "happy to be here."

This is seriously the first time all post season I've been nervous. Even before the 9th inning in game 4 of the DS, with Cueto on-deck for game 5, I wasn't as nervous as tonight. Hoping like crazy Kluber isn't sharp tonight.

I can't believe this is happening. I still can't [expletive] believe it.

I hope you left your debbie downer doom boner from last night at home.

I am also feeling ill. maybe Tim and I got it on and I don't remember

His dates tend to feel that way

And I'm not nervous at all tonight. Kluber will have a short leash after we score 4 runs off him in the first 3 innings. Lackey will squeak by through 5. Cubs 6 Indians 2

By product of the euphoria from getting here in the first place. I felt it pre-game 1 but then I realized that we may not get here again (God, I hope not) and got really depressed after the loss because we gotta take advantage of this opportunity.

Because I am neurotic, I am posting in tonight's game thread because last night I didn't and we lost.

So...sup guys?

That was an all out reverse jinx.

But I think that ruins it, so it wasn't.

Congrats on breaking that 60-whatever year drought, Cleveland.

Cubs with Lester, Arrieta, and Hendricks going against starters who already make for good matchups before considering that they're on short rest means that going down 3-1 isn't quite the death blow that it seems. But Dickbag McHorseteeth beating Kluber to tie it 2-2 is much better. Cubs should do the latter.

If Kluber can step it up a notch and strike out the side in order for the first 4 innings, more power to him. I think it unlikely.

GO CUBS!

I was just thinking. This is the first time that one of our 4 starters is all but guaranteed to be making their last start of the season. The finality of this is starting to sink in.

Watching the Cubs in the WS has been super fun even if they lose the next two. I *am* happy to be here.

Nothing can take away the way I felt when we won the pennant. I'd like to feel it again but if not, this has still been amazing.

i still feel really down after last night's loss, yet we have like a 40% chance if being champions in less than a week. i would have been thrilled with this position a few weeks ago.

My "happy to be here"-ness comes from what has already transpired and not what is likely to come. The Cubs were the best team in baseball this year, and it wasn't close, nor their performance a fluke. In the last two years no team is within 14 games of the Cubs. I've already gotten an incredible amount of enjoyment and satisfaction out of watching them run roughshod over MLB for 300+ games. I would very much like to cap that off with a World Series to put to rest the drought/curse/narrative silliness that might impede them from being remembered as such a dominant team, but my appreciation for the Cubs doesn't hinge on them winning this series, especially since at this point they haven't been eliminated 'early' or otherwise been considered a playoff disappointment.

All that said, this game does feel like the series decider. Winning 3 straight elimination games is a tall order, but winning 2 of 3 when you have your best 3 starters against short rest Bauer, short rest Tomlin, and Kluber for the 3rd time in 9 days(and having just won a Kluber start) feels like an overwhelming advantage.
