is it possible that the controls were handed over to forman like a year or two ago and pax has gotten his hands off?

paxson never made big splashes but he always seemed to make decent moves. there have been a lot of completely bizarre decisions (not the least of which was not trading gasol last year) more recently, though. just off the wall weird as hell.

Even if you didn't want to blow it up and trade Jimmy, you have to agree that if the Bulls were going to trade Jimmy you would have rather it had been for lottery picks as opposed to boston's role players right?

I just dont know about these Bulls anymore....

So they were probably asking for Brown and some combination of Smart, Bradley and Crowder?

I'm pretty sure Boston would've given any 3 of those 4 guys for Butler if the Nets picks weren't included in any way. Find that tweet hard to believe tbh.

That's kind of the impression. Paxson supposedly is the one guy in the FO wanting to rebuild too.

In the short term it makes us worse. And having had a couple nice wins recently I was looking forward to making the playoffs and having a punchers chance in the first two rounds.

In the long term it does nothing except I guess lets me go to bed after the first round of the draft this summer.

I wonder if Paxson has the authority to fire Gar?

I'm sure he does. I'm sure they don't do trades without him signing off either. What about how the Bulls have operated (and how Reinsdorf operates) suggests otherwise.

I don't know if that's necessarily the case. I feel like I've seen Crowder's name come up before as a name Boston would be hesitant to deal - not that he or any of the other three would be the deciding factor in something like this, but combined together I could see Stevens not wanting to break up his core that drastically.

Can't wait to hear them talk about how the retool is looking good.

This move is going to piss off Jimmy and Wade probably/hopefully. My guess is Wade opts out and Jimmy gets moved during the draft, to one of Philly, Phoenix, or Boston.

I don't think they would in season, in the offseason yes. Getting rid of 3 of those guys kills their depth to try and compete in the East this year, if that's what it takes try and make it with what you have now and do the trade in the offseason when you can draft/sign the rest of your roster to make it more complete. IMO.

Like I said in the NBA thread, if the ask in general was too much overall or just too much to really make the move now and still be able to contend this year I get not doing it for Jimmy or PG. What I don't get is not making a smaller move to upgrade for them like Willson Chandler/Gallinari or Robin Lopez where at most they probably have to give up their own 1st this year and Crowder and maybe some protected/2nd round picks.

Boston is in win now mode (or at least win very soon mode) so I don't think they'd prefer to gut their core even if the upcoming draft pick potentially has much more upside.

If those events unfold as stated, it's hard for me to think of an NBA franchise in a worse position, both immediately and long term.

A potential problem for this is that Reinsdorf and Forman's wives are extremely tight.

I dont know why, but I feel like the Bulls were rumored to like Payne in that draft. I could just be imaging things though.

Anyways, the nostalgia in me is sad to see Taj go. The side of me who liked McDermott coming out is sad to see it not work out.

Also, let 2010 Bulls fans know we finally added Morrow! (He shoots under 30% from 3 now)

i'm not sure what i think is crazier, that you think wade will walk away from a $24M option for one season, or that you think trubisky is going second round. wade knew what he was signing up for here. he picked money and chicago. he didn't come here because of any delusions of contending for a title. he knew this roster wouldn't get past cleveland, even at best.

i mean, i'm sure you're going to be right on at least one of those, because i'm an idiot, but for now i still think you're nuts. :-"

if forman is indeed in charge and that's the reason that all these weird decisions have been made recently, with paxson either not caring or ceding free rein to him, then i take back what i said on being kinda indifferent about the FO. i actively want them fired now. Edited by David

Nah, I'm already wrong on Trubisky. He's going top 5 supposedly now for sure. That hopefully is the worst hot take of my message board year. So, I have beaten your early season Bulls take with ease, in my mind lol

I can see Wade not wanting to uproot after a year. But, I can also see him getting 2/30 or so from a contender and saying horsefeathers this horsefeathers too.

They are capable (or at least were) of playing Boston tough in a 7 gamer. I'd rather see an interesting series than dump taj and Doug for three guys that can't break into OKCs rotation.

No the Bulls were never going to do much but I'd rather watch them try than pull a terrible trade that looks ridiculous in both the near and far term.

Wait, are you talking about the 2009 series against Boston? The horsefeathers does that have anything to do with the team today?

If the playoffs started now they would play Boston.
