Funny how a shutout (which featured 3 warning track fly balls) against the best pitcher of this decade means this team is doomed. The Cubs don't have to change anything up. Sure the offense isn't hitting everything in sight. But the pitching, which was better than everyone else's this year, has still been better than everyone else's.

There's no fear here. We beat the pesky Giants. The Giants were 11-8 vs. these Dodgers. By default, there should be no fear. Cubs playoff baseball is a completely different animal though.

LIFT MY BALLS TO HEAVEN CUBS

I would greatly appreciate a "non-classic" game. A blowout in the Cubs favor that bores everyone else that is not a Cubs fan would be glorious.

Exactly this. I appreciate watching a well played, tightly contested Cubs game. But I'm ready for a game in which we just bludgeon the other team. Seems like it's been awhile.

Back in 2007, Cubs made the playoffs and faced the D'Backs on the road for Game 1 and 2, lost both. Came home for game 3 with Rich Hill, we put all our hopes on him... And of course, he went 3 innings allowing 3 ER before being pulled. Then the Cubs lost 5-1. That sucked.

Chris Young hit the very first pitch of the game for a HR. Imagine how deflating that is for the Cubs, sure you are down 0-2 but you are back home, its the first playoff game at Wrigley in 4 years, the fans are nuts, you just did your pregame introductions that gives the game that very important feeling, and then boom you are losing already. He needs to make things right by blowing this game. Come on OPR.

That is exactly how it went down. I was there and had convinced myself things could turn around. The crowd really was great throughout introductions and even during that first pitch to Young. He hit it and the place went dead.

The good thing is O P R will pay us all back TONIGHT.

I've been waiting a long time for him to make everything right in this world again.

I'm still 100% confident about this series. The further we get away from Game 2, the better I feel about it. Gonzalez went down and hit a pretty good pitch for a HR. The Dodgers threatened a couple of times, but the Cubs did what they had to do to stay in the game against a generational pitcher.

Yes, it would be nice for the offense to get it going a bit, but I'm not making any indictments about them for getting shutout by Kershaw. The Cubs have done quite well against lefties all season, and with all due respect to Hill and Urias, I expect the Cubs to put some runs on the board against them. If they do so, I have no doubts that Arrieta and Lackey can do enough to get the ball to the bullpen with a lead.

I'm not quite ready to start the "must win" hot takes, but in terms of putting them in a good position to win this series I do think tonight is a key game. Being ahead 2-1 after tonight heading into tomorrow's game (with Lester lined up for Thursday) would be huge.

Yep, I was there too and it turned into a morgue after the first damn pitch.

that one hurts. Not only is it 1-1 if that stays fair, but you're talking about potentially adding another 5-10 pitches to kershaw's count

Yeah seriously...we had some really good swings in that game. In that 5th inning, the 2 actual hits were not hit as hard/well as 2 of the outs in the inning. Then obviously Javy's fly out in the 7th.

We are playing .600 ball in the playoffs. I'm not scared yet. I wish we could get this going. How pretty would a crooked number in the top of the first be?

Joe on the Score says Miggy is catching tonight and he is considering moving Russell down but hasn't committed to the idea yet

Guess his back is ok. Why no Contreras though? :(

My first reaction to that foul ball wasn't "Damnit, we really needed that" it was "Damnit, he really needed that"

Got an extra ticket? I'll be in town for a wedding earlier Saturday but I've been given the go ahead from the wife to skip the dinner if there's a Cubs game.
