Goal for me is a 4-3 week. 103-59 just sounds so much cooler than 102-60

6-1 damnit.

We have 3 against the Reds. So if 4-3 is acceptable, then that means 1-3 against the Pirates is acceptable. It is not.

Oh man, they are so bitter at GRB. I love it. They hated the Ross ovations so much. I wish we could play them in every game for the rest of the season for maximum schadenfreude.

Give them a break....the Cubs fans haven't had anything to cheer for in a long long time

I really want to post this string of gifs as a response:

I totally get why Cardinals fans, and even other non-Cubs fans would think the Ross tributes were over the top last night. If you weren't a Cubs addict this year it could definitely seem pretty ridiculous.

But I don't get Cubs fans, especially ones from this message board, not appreciating that last night. Reading through this game thread, I see those that thought it was over the top...and I don't get it.

Guys, this game means almost zilch for the Cubs. They have another week left of meaningless baseball. That the Cubs, and the fans, could/would spend time honoring the last regular season home game of a guy that, somehow, made this season decidedly more fun than a "normal 100 win season" would be, is fantastic. All the more so because it was against a Cardinals team to whom that game was actually important, because it would irritate that fan base.

Enjoy because Ross is a super fun person, because he had a great season, because the Cubs had a great season, or the shadenfreude of the Cardinal fans hating it. Whatever works for you, but it was all glorious.

Not sure Lester is real happy about that whole thing happening.

Well actually....

Lester, the Cubs' left-handed ace who is a frontrunner for the National League Cy Young Award, plotted a plan with manager Joe Maddon on Saturday to take Ross out mid-inning during Sunday’s game. He wanted an appropriate sendoff during the Cubs' final regular-season home game at Wrigley Field.

It was completely over the top and ridiculous and hilarious and awesome.

Yeah, I didn't word that well. It wasn't the over the top part I was really arguing. Just that some Cubs fans didn't seem to like that.

It's funny because I thought Lester was an uber-serious dude who didn't have a funny bone in his body and knowing that was his idea lightens him up a whole lot in my head

Good stuff

not that he is or isn't funny/not serious but what about this makes you say that? it's not like it was some kind of practical joke. he was trying to honor and make a moment for a good friend and teammate.

Yeah, it was a totally overcooked production, worthy of eye-rolling, even. But the fact that it bugged Cards fans so much makes it horsefeathering great.

I thought it was a ridiculous thing to do for a bench player who sucked for a good 50% of his time as a Cub, regardless of how likable he is, and I'm totally telling myself that it was mostly done just as a huge, hilarious FU to the Cardinals and their fans and the kind of BFiB nonsense they huff up their butts on a regular basis.

Basically if this became a regular thing for the Cubs I would be...disappointed.

The only way it becomes a regular thing is if they have the division locked up in advance of the last home game and can afford to partake in the game with less than 100% focus on the win, so that would be fine by me. They will also need guys in their stated final season, and given how young they are that just isn't likely to be the case.

I mean, the only thing *they* really did was pull him out semi-ceremoniously. The rest was the crowd and then the fact that he, ridiculously perfectly, managed to hit a massive dong while this was all going on, only amplifying it all.

That said GWR posters are generally ok, about as much as a group of Cardinals fans could be, and I'm pretty sure they created their board with help from NSBB posters. Lets not troll them too hard. But this one was cool :)

Someone tell Matheny that he's still in his 40s and doesn't have to act like a crotchety old man all the time like his mentor

Most of the posters there, of what I've seen, seem alright, even when the thread is about the Cubs. Surely there are worse, more WSI-like Cardinals boards out there.
