Serious question. Was the television picture quality that shitty 15+ years ago and I’m just spoiled now, or is there some reason these game replays look so bad? I’ve watched a few from the early 2000’s and they look like the moon landing.

2005 was still 480p, wasn't it? i always wonder how today's stuff will look decades from now. we're already getting diminishing returns from resolution,so i wonder what kind of technology will advance the way home displays look.i guess hdr on sports would be a good start.

There was the odd HD broadcast before that, but yeah, SD was standard at that point. The reason it doesn't look good is the upconversion, most likely.

I bought a 32 inch HD TV in 2006 with frequent player points on Pokerstars, and yeah, the only HD content back then was blu ray (which I didn't have and wouldn't have for many years later) and OTA.
