Can't remember if there was a thread for this already, but oh well

Open with a 6 game road trip to STL and MIL, World Series rings handed out against the team they beat in the NLCS (Dodgers)

Weird thing is that this schedule doesn't show home and road yet.

Interleague is 4 games against the White Sox and Rays (both 2H,2R), and 3 at Wrigley against the Yankees (Starlin Homecoming!) and Jays, while visiting Boston and Baltimore both for 3.

Looks like the season ends with 3 against the Reds at Wrigley, based on the start times.

You can check which games are home and road on the MLB's full schedule page:

That's a pain.

Interesting thing I found is that the Cubs have a lack of home weekend series in the summer. Always go with friends for one weekend series, and there are only 3 in the mid-June to mid-August time frame I looked: Pirates, STL and Nationals.

I just hope next year we have an opening "day" again and not night. i like night games and it was cool for a year or two but i miss my day off work drunk fest starting at 9 or 10 am that usually makes up my opening day.

Friday day game please.

No, why would we have a Friday day game, when we could have a horsefeathering Monday night.

I don't really get it. Unless they have to allot their night games a certain way by month or whatever, opening day is a sure sell out at their highest price tier. Why not use that to knock out a usually poor selling weekday April game (not that the night games that early fill up spectacularly but I think they do better than a midweek day game).

Is it basically just an ESPN asks so we have to give in sort of thing?

Our home opener wasn't on ESPN this year, this is a CSN/WGN/whatever decision

makes sense i guess...I just didn't realize the local broadcast peons had any say in game scheduling.

the local broadcasting revenue is what will make or break the Cubs from a financial standpoint.

they want to show their current partners and potential future partners how high their ratings can be.

i mean, how much is one game going to make an impact in those negotiations for whatever they do in the future? as for right now, they make out the same either way with their current deal (maybe a little more ad revenue depending on how the WGN or ABC deals wound up being structured - I don't recall the details but I remember things being open ended based on how they actually did).

then again, you can say the same for how real of an impact the ticket sale difference would make anyway.

i just want my horsefeathering opening day day drinking back.

ESPN has "flexed" Opening Day between the Cubs and Cardinals in St Louis to Sunday. Really wish that game was at Wrigley.

All the more reason why announcing your schedule before the previous concludes is moronic. How is it not the ring ceremony at Wrigley?

In whatever year the Nationals opened their new park, the MLB actually moved a Nats-Braves game scheduled for later in the year to Sunday Night Baseball before Opening Day so they could show 1st game at the park. I was hoping they would find a way to do something like this for the Cubs. I mean I know I'm a homer, but I would think having the entire attention of the baseball world and showing the Cubs first game at Wrigley since winning the title would be a huge draw. I guess its possible the Cubs requested that not to happen just in case their offseason rennovation work wasn't done in time.
