What could you get for Alshon?

Can't trade a franchise tag player

Is that true? If so, I can't find it anywhere. I thought they could.

Apparently Pernell McPhee went off on Cutler on the sidelines too.

I'd be more excited for a high pick if they weren't gonna blow it on an injury-riddled bust.

Well, I watched that entire train wreck of a game, and I'm sad. It's going to be a long season. At least I don't have to make sure I have a clean Bears jersey to wear each Sunday. I'm too embarrassed to be seen in one at this point.

so Cutler misses 2-3 weeks and comes back for jacksonville, or he misses a full 6 and comes back after bye week? There is a legit chance the Bears won't be favored in any remaining games. I mean, jacksonville remains garbage but if that game is sans Cutler, does it go past pick-em?

My guess is the McCaskeys give Pace and Fox one more offseason, one more high draft pick and if there aren't signs of a major step forward in 2017, another regime will bite the dust. It's been 14 years since this team won fewer than 5 games, and they've lost 13 only once. They could easily flirt with those levels of ineptitude this year. Would a 3-13 season be enough to start all over again this winter? If so, what direction do you go? Presumably the next GM would have a amateur scouting background, unlike Pace's less than ideal for building through the draft pro personnel background. Do they look to the Cubs and try and build a front office super group? Find a solid young GM to make president of football ops and let him stuff the department?

At this point I think you work behind the scenes to find an up and comer to take over after 2017. Let Pace and Fox continue to make this team younger and then cut 'em loose if/when you get the chance to completely overhaul the front office. The ship has sailed on winning with Cutler. There's no hope for now and very little hope for intermediate.

My bold prediction. The nearly as lowly Saints finally part ways with Sean Payton. Pace drops Fox, signs Payton, and drafts his QB for him to mold. Jay is traded for a couple mid round picks.

Oh and outside of Cutler, Goldman had to be pretty high on the list of guys we could least afford to lose, and his injury definitely looked serious.

i read that they were calling it a high ankle sprain, which is not great but its not a season ender.

that would be a real ballsy move for a relative neophyte like Pace with a terrible track record to try and pull off. Give a veteran head coach a garbage team and back-to-back wasted first round picks and then kick him to the curb when things go predictably bad, only to give the job to the coach whose team has been falling apart for nearly as long as the Bears have and largely because of a poor "pro personnel decisions", which was your department at that team.
