I'm just not sure how much being steadier on defense really means. You need playmakers to get off the field, and this team doesn't have them. Having only one or two weaknesses to attack won't really slow the offense down over having 3 or 4 if they have all the time in the world and don't have to worry about the defense making a big play on them.

I could be very wrong though. We'll start finding out in two days.

I've been in the goony frame of mind that, inside LB isn't an impact position. And while that is true, we shouldn't underestimate the playmaking ability of Danny Trevathan. He's a really good player. He's a factor in the pass game covering LBs. Obviously can stop the run. And though he didn't have to do it much with Miller, Jackson, Ware, Wolfe in front of him, he is a really good blitzer. Goldman may be pretty close to a playmaker this year. Floyd could be eventually, but obviously has a ways to go. Really would like it if Deiondre Hall turned out to be a playmaker. He showed some signs in preseason. I think the Bears should start him regardless of Fuller's/Callahan's status.

Well, now I'm curious as to what you think his best season was.

Year one of Tresty, with the shortened Martz year being number 2, at least on a per game basis.

Yeah the 2 years with Martz were pretty good considering his receivers during those years were Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Rashied Davis, Devin Aromashodu, Roy Williams and Dane Sanzenbacher (he did have Greg Olsen in 2010)

In fact I never would have believed that Jay's career arc went the way it did if you told me during the 4th quarter of that chargers game in 2011. That was his career peak, one year removed from a 11-5 division title and NFC title game appearance, bounced back from a 2-3 start to win 5 in a row and considered one of the legit contenders in the NFC. Then he broke his damn thumb chasing down a DB who intercepted a pass that shouldn't have been intercepted (I believe it bounced off his [expletive] WR target and held up in the air long enough for someone to grab it) and it all went downhill from there.

If I remember correctly, the crappy Soldier Field sod made Knox lose his balance which allowed for the tipped ball and subsequently Cutler's injury. The Chicago Park district took away a great year from Jay.

No way he makes it through the whole season. I had a torn labrum in my right shoulder and it was almost popping out on a regular basis playing basketball. I can't fathom how his shoulder will possibly hold up for 16 games.

Fuller said he'd be in there

But that's why you pay Alshon.

He is a difference-maker.
