Beltre truly is the hero baseball needs.

 

They're probably right that this suspension is probably an overreaction to that interview, but there's probably 100 other incidents over the course of Joe West's career where he rightly deserved a suspension, so overall I think West is still winning the "get away with being an horsefeathers that's shitty at his job" game.

I went to the Cards Braves game Sunday and he was at first base. I pointed him out before the game and damned if he didn't blow an obvious call on a not so close play. Fortunately it got reversed, but he's just so predictably bad. Him, West, and Bucknor all need to go.

I'd be very interested to look at Kinsler's pitch f/x data at the end of the season. I have a guess as to how August and September games will compare to the earlier games.

This thread deserves an honorary title for Joe West, like we gave to the Game Thread forum for Fred.

 

There's no need to exalt Joe West while Bucknor and Hernandez still have jobs. He's not special

 

I personally consider CB's strike zone to be the worst now that Froemming is gone

Agreed. But West's stupid fat face closes the gap fast. Esp when CB has not umpired a Cubs game in a while

 

(disclaimer: he may have and I just missed it but I feel this is accurate so I'm going with it)

The problem with West is that he's so arrogant to go with his terribleness. Like last year when he just decided the Cubs couldn't meet on the mound to give their reliever more work, which always happens (when Maddon got tossed and got what he wanted anyways) just because he didn't want it to happen. There are other instances of him just being a power hungry oaf as well. Hernandez and Buckner are awful but it's West's arrogance that puts him over the top.

I don't know if Dale Scott was good or bad, but he's done.

This metric has him dead last as regards calling strikes as balls and vice versa.
