Whole lot of really bad and disappointing Cubs with the number 20, huh

Jerome Walton too.

We're basically cycling through all the players that should've been the players we have now.

Also, since Howard Johnson hotels were orange and blue, I thought he owned them when he was with the Mets.

Yes this! It took me way longer realize there wasn't at least a connection between the two than I'd like to admit.

Yeah I thought in the offseason he worked behind the counter at the Howard Johnson by my house

HoJo was at my little league awards banquet for some reason so I have his autograph on my trophy

Man, the early 90s Cubs had some shitty free agent signings. HoJo, Danny Jackson, Kal Daniels, Dave Smith, George Bell (until he turned into Sosa), etc... Good lord, 90-97 Cubs were trash.

I occasionally recommend the book "Entangled in Ivy" for an insider look at the late-80's/early-to-mid-90's Cubs. It's probably been 8-9 years since I read it but IIRC a lot of that was the Tribune Co. pushing MacPhail to make those signings because they were somewhat known names that would help bring more fans to Wrigley even if they were mostly over the hill.

That's both unsurprising and completely annoying.

I wanted to post Enrique Wilson, but could not find a single picture of him in a Cubs uniform with his number showing.

Good thing they spent all that money on those guys instead of that Greg guy. Nobody would have filled the stands to see that Greg guy pitch in the 90s.

Sobs uncontrollably..

Dont know which hurts more losing Maddux or the early 00's Cubs power pitchers all blowing up.

Maddux was obviously the best by far but I have doubts 90s Cubs would have put anything around him anyways.

Kal Daniels was brought in for another sad point in Cubs history as he was traded for Gary Scott aka the next Ron Santo. That trade allowed Leo Gomez and Steve Buechele to flourish at 3rd.

Butterfly effect be dammed Maddux-Wood-Tapani would have been a solid 1-2-3 for that 1998 playoff team
