To really underscore the point, right handed hitters have a sub-.500 OPS against Martinez.

If that's the case, it really underscores how much we could use another lefty bat since you have Russell batting 5th (i know he hits righties better but still). If Heyward or Coghlan had a pulse they'd be hitting higher.

Russell ®, Heyward, Coghlan, Ross ® and Lester is rough.

On a non-Lester night you'd have Montero too. I don't think that's really a captial P problem, could it be a bit better? Sure, but the improvement comes most from Heyward and Coghlan meeting minimal expectations rather than making a bunch of personnel changes(Russell is going to stay in the lineup, for example).

Oh sure I am splitting hairs here, it's not a dire issue but it does become a little more exposed when you face a pitcher who is death on righties and some of your lineup options are to add a guy hitting .158 this year (Coghlan), a guy hitting .190 this year (Montero). One of your switch hitters is better against lefties (Fowler), and one of your starting lefties has a better OPS against LHP this year (although he's sucked in all situations - Heyward).

That is an....adventurous defensive alignment, especially in the outfield on a day where outfielders will be surely getting action.

To be fair, the Cards defense sucks no matter what combo they put out there. Do they get much better with Grischuk or Wong playing?

I know Carpenter's health is a consideration, but swapping his position with Gyorko's, and letting an actual CF play CF(with Piscotty moving to a corner) makes a big difference. Especially against Lester, where it's easy to justify sitting Moss(.570 OPS v. LHP).

Never forget

The MLB description makes it even better:

9/9/15: In an effort to get his bat in the lineup, the Cardinals pencil in Randal Grichuk in center despite not being able to throw.

I really want to see Jerome Williams this series.

I cant believe he's still playing.

Yeah, I was a senior in high school when he became a Cub. I'll be 30 next month.

There's really no reason for such a mediocre pitcher to have lasted as long as he has.

I was at my first cubs game at 15 and he threw me a ball during batting practice. Made my day.
