As much as I enjoy KB, his one major drawback is that for every home run he hits, Scott Boras' soul grows one thousand times blacker.

There is no drawback to this. I hope he is so good that he is worth a billion dollars by the time he hits free agency.

I figure that between KB, Addi, and Jake, we should try and offer Boras part ownership of the team, and perhaps change the Wrigley to The Scott Boras Coliseum and Shrine.

When was the last time a Cub led the league in WAR? I don't think Sammy ever bested Bonds (and others).

Weird. Fangraphs is down right now.

So, by the (vastly inferior) bWAR, it was Sandberg in '84 and Santo in '67 before that. But that was just National League. To find a Cub as MLB leader you have to go back to Banks in '59.

Sullivan made it very clear that he wasn't saying that Bryant isn't "clutch", but rather that in clutch situations this year, Bryant hasn't been very good. Which he hasn't. And it's pretty much random.

He also said that Bryant isn't a bad driver, just that when he's operating a motor vehicle he hasn't been successful at not crashing

He actually said that he is a really good driver, and was like the best at not crashing last year and like the worst this year, and that that pretty much means that regardless of driving ability, there is no such thing as being good or bad at avoiding accidents. I think.

Regardless, if anyone read that piece and concluded that the point was that Kris Bryant is not clutch and shouldn't win the MVP because he sucks with runners in scoring position, then I don't think you read the same article that I did.

Can someone who knows more than me (I.e many of you) explain to me how fan graphs and baseball references WAR can be almost a full win different (7.6 vs. 6.8)?

the main difference between the two is the defensive metric systems they use

duke talks a lot about it here and in subsequent posts, albeit with regard to addy rather than kb

What's been really encouraging is that his K rate has dipped during this past month and only 7 strikeouts in his last 17 games. Its scary to think what he could be striking out only 100 times a year. His pitch recognition is already amongst the league's best.

Did you read the article? It was very fair and backed it up with good stats based analysis.

There are excellent cases to be made for Daniel Murphy, Nolan Arenado and Corey Seager. But the NL MVP award feels like it's Kris Bryant's to lose. The Cubs' mad masher is on pace for 44 homers, 39 doubles, 136 runs scored, 188 hits, 81 walks and very close to a .300/.400/.600 slash line. For the best team in baseball. The only men since 1900 with a season like that were Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Whoa.
