It probably means absolutely nothing, but I wonder if it helps Hendricks at all to follow Jake in the rotation. Meaning teams are seeing mid 90s with movement 1 day and then they are seen similar movement with better location the next day but 5-9 MPH slower. Probably is nothing but something I've recently thought of. More likely Hendricks is just pretty horsefeathering good

Somebody find Hendricks numbers following Jake vs. Not following Jake. Now.

When a fly ball is hit to the outfield at this Coliseum, why does the outfield feel so much bigger than Wrigley?

I was looking at the comparison of the dimensions and there is definitely more area in the outfield in Oakland... however, it doesn't seem to be significantly more than Wrigley.

I' like ESPN's overlay better: http://www.hittrackeronline.com/ballpark_overlay.php

Look like left field is a little deeper at Oakland, but right-center is deeper at Wrigley.

I'm guessing it just feels bigger because Oakland is a huge, empty stadium

You're still seemingly saying that being swept by the Cardinals lead to prolonged struggling. It's not like 3 weeks later after that series that's what they kept thinking about and it made them play poorly; it's just a coincidence that it was THAT series that was played at that point. And being 6.5 up on August 7th is HUGELY different than being 6.5 up a month prior. It's really not a series with any real consequence for the Cubs short of failing to take efforts to crush the Cardinals' playoff hopes as a WC team.

No, I am saying that losing 40 percent of your division lead in four games is meaningful.

Wait...are we already miserable about the best team in baseball playing the Cardinals and maybe getting swept? Jesus even if that happens the division is over. Why can't we be happy when the Super Cubs are here?

Childhood trauma probably.

That and/or a general depressive/pessimistic demeanor.

When baseball wasn't fun last month I'll admit I started looking at ways we could blow the division but this team is just supremely talented and the Cardinals keep running out Jedd Gyorko. There is no Devil Magic. They're just mediocre and we are the best team in the game.

I think this is only his fourth start following Arrieta. He followed Lester for a while and before that was fifth in the rotation.

you kind of joined the conversation late.

I think I go to the pen. Kyle pitched great, the pen is rested and some of the guys could use an inning of work, especially with another off day tomorrow. Don't want to needlessly run KH's innings total up this late in the season. He got his CGSO last start. So let the pen take it from here.
