He was running outside the baseline therefore he's out.

I know the rule. But he wasn't outside the baseline until right at the base. It's a stupid rule.

He stepped right in front of the throw. He should be out.

The throw was in his line to the base. It's not like he wasn't running toward the base. He was running straight through the base. This wasn't the case of a guy running into the outfield grass to avoid a tag or something like that.

Man this guy was over 60 pitches with no outs in the third. I thought he wouldn't make it out of the 4th alive. He's settled in. And by settled in I mean that the Cubs line drives are going right at fielders

I like being in "I don't really care because we got this division" mode again like I was before the pre break swoon.

Will feel better after that Cardinals series next week.

This has been a bad luck game for the ages. It feels like a loss on a couple dink singles but that would involve making contact on our cy young candidate.

What!? We are 11 up on them and we are the vastly superior team. It's over. Even if they sweep us, they will be like 8 games back with 45 games left.

If the Cubs win 101 games (current pace), the Cardinals can only lose 8 more games this year to force a tie.

If the Cubs win 101 games, they will win the division by 10 or more games. But, the last slide started with a sweep by the Cardinals. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all worried - but as far as not caring, I still care about results.

It's a 4 game series but yeah I agree with your post

And the first 3 games of the series are started by Jon Jake and Kyle. Ask the As how that's worked out for them

Ive always thought the runner should be allowed to run in fair ground to 1B as long as he isn't wider than the edge of the base. I know that's not the rule, but that's what I think it should be.

I was just posting something I thought was interesting. I hadn't read your post yet.

well, they've only scored in one inning this weekend so why are you surprised?

it's in jest, not serious. it's a play on a previous post.

And yet his point makes my post just a little more valid.

How do you manage to fit a keyboard up there?

The Cubs going through an extended fallow period was not "caused" by being swept by the Cardinals. That's an insane conclusion.

Huh? No one said it was caused by the Cardinals.

Then what else is pointing out it "started" with a sweep by the Cardinals supposed to mean? If you're pointing out that it simply coincided with that series, then hey, we agree, but then it's a redundant point to make in the first place. By making it sound like you're worried about the Cubs facing them again, you sure seem to be placing a ton of weight on that sweep having something to do with them struggling for a while after that.

Well, it certainly correlates in my mind. High point of season, 27 games over, 12.5 up in division, then get swept. It's a reminder that things can turn around quickly as they did in that case. A four game sweep could cut the lead right back down to 6.5 and that would be worrisome. It's definitely a series with high potential consequences.

Kyle is a damn machine. I seriously think he might end the year with a sub-2.00 ERA. He's legitimately entering the Cy Young conversation.

the amount of weak contact is phenomenal.
