I remember the Astros comeback in '89 and the Rockies in '08. This has to be third I think though, that I remember in my lifetime.

The aram game vs the brewers in 07 was a 5 run comeback. Seems in most years good teams have a kick ass comeback

I knew I was forgetting one, good call.

When you question the wisdom of Joe Maddon, you always get the same answer: stop questioning the wisdom of Joe Maddon.

Like Baker and Piniella before him...

No, not at all like Baker and Piniella before him.

EXACTLY like them(not in "style"). I was on the ESPN boards, and then here during those times...some of the very same types thought neither one of them could do no wrong their first few years based on "intangibles" and reputation/past records etc as well.. Maddon was a complete hack again tonight, and got his ass bailed out by dumb luck. lol @ managing yourself out of position players by the end of the 10th inning and NEEDING to put a pitcher in LF AGAIN.

In the last week we came back from 4 down twice (I forgot the sox game we lost) and this one. Is this gonna be a thing in the second half? Can it be a thing in addition to also destroying teams?

Should go through the early part of this game thread for [expletive] and giggles.

But then you'd have to remember that Brian Matusz once put on a Cubs jersey.

I still say there seemed to be a lot of optimism about a comeback within the posts about that one pitcher who started for us.

But, he didn't have to do it. He did it to optimize the time when he could use Szczur as a hitter. Plus he also then used Wood again later when the lefties all came up. I feel like you are stretching here, big time...

That's the coolest part. He didn't NEED to. Scissors was still on the bench.

You are both completely wrong and way out of your depth in the discussion here.

The Aramis game is probably my favorite. Because, at the time, I wasn't sure how real that team was. And the stakes were certainly very high. Not only did we win in spectacular fashion, but it ramped up my excitement level for the whole season.

I'm still not sure if I would have preferred the heyride or that.

Last two Sunday games we have come back from 4 down and 6 down to win.

We can stash that Heyride Walkoff for our next Sunday night game 2 weeks from now..

What about the one when some goof fan charged Bob Howry after giving up a big lead in the 9th, then we came right back and won on a Soriano bomb (to you young people, that's what we called them before they became dongs.) I think it was in '07, also vs. the Rockies.

I think my favorite is a lesser known game. It was on my bday in 2003 and Z hit a three run bomb off of Wade Miller to beat them(we were down 2-0 late). Not quite as big of a comeback, but pretty improbable.

Didn't we have a decent sized comeback vs the cards in 03?

Some people don't get that weird stuff happens when your starter goes 3 innings.

You don't see teams win very often when that happens.

So different strategies go into action. So losing all position players might happen, especially when trying to avoid the game going deeper.

Yeah, he did basically...otherwise he runs out of pitchers AND position players(if he used the 1 guy he had left at that point) before we get a chance to win it in the 12th.

I drank a lot of that last half of the season, lol. I feel like we did during the Alou game on the ball that went foul, but was clearly fair and still lost.

Just look around our division at the managers, now, be glad we have who we have.

Now this I can get behind...lol

Maddon is one of the best overall, I agree...He COULD be so much better is all IMO.

Came back from down 6-0 (on a JD Drew grand slam off of Felix Sanchez?) to win. This may have been the front end of a DH with the Alfonseca belly bump.

ETA: The DH was the day before. Woody Williams came on in relief, and wound up losing 2 games in that series.
