We haven't seen this type of heat since Kyle Farnsworth, really.

or Henry Rowengartner.

Maddon talked about getting him in the game to get his feet wet, I feel like last night was more Maddon getting Cub fans a dose of why Chapman is here. Yea he did a fucked up thing, but 101, 100, 103 raises the specter of his talent

Really don't understand the inability from some to give this guy a chance to redeem himself through good living and as an aside, playing good baseball.

I read through every document filed by the authorities in Florida and it leaves no doubt he was guilty of some wrongdoing in the DV incident - but there was a lot more confusion, contradiction. and recanting surrounding the events then there were facts.

He served his punishment - lets save the torches and pitchforks for the next documentation of Chapman tuning up a lady, child, dog or even a cat.

Doesn't the guy deserve a chance to turn himself around?

Methinks he's in a pretty good atmosphere to help foster some positive life and attitude changes.

I really don't understand how you can't understand what the issue is. It wasn't like he had three beers at a bar and had a DUI. His actions were deplorable and inexcusable.

And to top it off, he is not the least bit remorseful. He doesn't think he did anything wrong.

I'd like to see the Venn Diagram of people who think steroid usage should be a lifetime ban but "mistakes" like Chapman's should be pushed aside and forgotten.

Really don't understand the ability of some to so easily want to give a guy a chance to redeem himself just because he can throw a baseball really fast.

I really don't get what your point is; we fans have no effect on his ability to redeem himself. All of the people that do have an effect on that ability (teams, legal system, family, girlfriend, children, etc) are apparently giving him that chance, whether we like it or not. Rightly or wrongly, and largely because of his athletic talent, he IS getting the chance at redemption that you bemoan us peons of not giving him.

Part of why some people are so angry is because he doesn't actually have to be remorseful and he doesn't have to learn to respect women and he doesn't really have to face any consequences and yet he still gets a chance at redemption. In fact, he doesn't just get a chance at redemption, he is pretty much automatically given redemption. Because he is good at playing baseball. That disgusts me, and it disgusts me that the team I care a lot about is choosing to be part of the problem and not part of the solution, and it disgusts me that I am probably just going to get over it in a couple weeks.

Please explain what you're certain he did -

Can't we have one thread where climate change deniers also stick their heads in the sand about his despicableness as a person and one where we can marvel over his pitching prowess?

Not to derail the convo......this part was actually interesting and got me thinking in that people really do excuse DUIs (I get the three beers part) in general in our society.

I wonder if it's because so many people can put themselves in that position. Yet, it's quite a deplorable and inexcusable act in that innocent people are killed all the time. Really, people should be judged quite harshly for it by the public no matter the end result.

I tend to agree. I tried to think of some other relatively common athlete crime that wasn't a direct attack on another human and didn't involve guns. I'm very anti D&D and it's one of the biggest reasons I'd never move back to a suburb.

I hate that we even have to have this discussion but 108 years is a long horsefeathering time and he's incredible at throwing the baseball. I guess I'll just hold my nose and clap with one hand when he saves a game for the Cubs.

Most have probably seen this by now, but for those who haven't:

The word "choking" is gross exaggeration from what this report describes.

And to say Chapman "isn't remorseful" is pretty presumptuous imo.

He was just trying to hug her neck. Cuz of all the love.

may I never stray from my sig...

What goony said. He had a chance to do something and didn't.
