Feelings aside on Chapman, Torres is too much for 2 months of him. I hope we get Eovaldi or Pineda, if we head down this road.

it's probably the "i had him on my fantasy team" bias talking, but i want nothing to do with pineda. and i know his peripherals look pretty good other than serving up HR like it's BP.

I kind of just threw them out there. I'm OK with them, but I'm envisioning a better SP addition than that. Some semblance of a minor league pitching prospect coming back instead would be A-OK with me. But the Yanks dont have much in that department that I like.

yeah...i think TT has mentioned before that he's a "name on the front" guy and would eventually be ok with it. i'm kinda in the same boat. he's probably (almost certainly?) a huge scumbag but he's also really [expletive] good and should come relatively cheap. before i didn't want him, but being able to replace our worst bullpen arm with him would be a noticeable upgrade (and i'm saying this on the assumption that he won't cost us anything we'll be too bummed over).

You'd be bummed about Torres, right? I do think it's going to take that.

If not any of Happ, Torres, Eloy then get it done. I'll deal with my dirty feelings.

I wouldn't be all that bummed about Torres but I don't know if it will take that. I'm not huge on Torres, both because of what he profiles as and our need. I see him purely as trade ammo. I'd hope/think his standing could get us more than a rental reliever (a really damn good one but also with huge baggage), but maybe he can't. If they can deal him as the centerpiece of a package for one of those starters with team control they're looking for, that'd be great. I just really have no idea how the market values him.

I feel like it almost will have to take a guy like Torres. Enough teams want Chapman and the Yankees at least have to get something as good as a first round pick since they would tender him even if they can't resign him.

They won't get Joe Ross, but a teenager in A ball seems like a possibility.

I don't even care about Torres that much either. I, too, just assume he could bring back more than a rental, but maybe not. I mean, the kid may never even play above Triple A for all I know.

I don't know anything about anything but of the top 3-4 guys in our system (assuming Almora graduated which I think he did last week) Torres is the guy that I'd be most ok with giving up. Although for a rental I'm still not thrilled with the idea at all

Hope this dude is a complete BSer

There's just no [expletive] way

And isn't it a woman?

Maybe, but a quick glance isn't reliable enough.

After going to that account, why would you even link that tweet? Hahaha.

Seriously. lol

Lol I go on follow sprees of cub fans and I guess I don't vet enough

Since 5/1, Torres has hit .302/.379/.468 as a 19 year old short stop at A+. I wouldn't deal him for 2 months of Chapman. Keep the powder dry on those top 3 guys and use a Zagunis or two to get someone like Will Smith.

if it's any higher than torres as main piece, i'll be pissed. if it's torres, i'll be ok. if it's less than torres i'll be happy.

I think bringing Chapman in requires actually going through an "interview" process of sorts in FA. I'd rather they focus on SP.

you're the last person i thought i'd see arguing against this. ha.

I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed.

I feel dirty that I find myself excited about having Chapman. For sure judge me.

I mean, we did root for Starlin Castro for years. Chapman is at least good at baseball.

whatever man, get chapman and reddick and i'll be happy and just assume winning the world series is guaranteed this season.

also, i'm biased because i used to troll reds fans around here for years about how chapman was going to be on the mound when the cubs finally win a world series. so if that actually happened it would help me out a lot.

I'm definitely a name on the front guy instead of the back, so I'd eventually be fine with it, but Chapman would be conflicting. On one hand, baseball has done a really poor job of welcoming women as fans, and Chapman skating on a domestic violence charge is another reminder to all of them that they matter a little bit less. At the same time, Chapman was put through the legal system(unlike, say, Castro) and served a suspension, so there has to be a point of equilibrium. You can't blackball every player you don't like as a person or Mojo's MLB would only have 15 active players. Plus from the Cubs perspective, odds are this is only a short-lived phenomenon.

As far as the costs go, I'm probably going to be bummed at what the Cubs would give up. Not necessarily because it's bad value, because Chapman is truly an inning incinerator you can use about 30 times plus as many playoff games as you want. But because it's for short term assets, and short term reliever assets, and that's counter to how I would like the team to be run, and counter to how Theo/Jed have built this team to be what it is.

TT what would you feel is a fair trade that would make you happy? What are some examples of realistic hypotheticals that would leave you bummed?

ETA: Also, does Chapman bump Rondon to set-up? Any feelings on how that will impact Hector/Cubs?

He for sure bumps him to set up, and Rondon said the other day that he doesn't give a horsefeathers. At least publicly.

For the former, I don't even really know. Almora, Edwards, and someone in low levels like Clifton? Almora, EJM, Pierce Johnson?

For the latter, trading away any of Baez, Soler, Torres, Happ, or Jimenez would be a bummer. Not necessarily because they're all so great, but that it'd be such a poor way of spending that currency. Like buying that really expensive and fun but impractical souvenir when you're on vacation. It doesn't ruin your life, but you should probably be smart enough to know that you're signing up for buyer's remorse.

ha, there's definitely huge bias at play in that we've actually seen almora and edwards already, but man, that package would bum me way more than one where torres was the best piece.

Maybe it's just me but I would much rather trade Soler than Almora.
