Why is it that Maddon is "new school" in almost all aspects of managing besides playing the L/R matchups. Montero would've put together a better AB there and would've at least been a HR threat.

 

Lopez has extreme splits, you can't let pretty much anyone but Rizzo face him from the left side if you can help it.

It didn't make sense to bring him up then, either; Ross is doing fine and is a fantastic defensive catcher. Any offense Contreras MIGHT bring in that small window is likely offset by how he's a work in progress behind the plate and has no real rapport with anyone on the staff.

Ah well. That was a game. Lester didn't even pitch all that badly but got bizarrely squeezed and gave up a somewhat inexcusable double to the pitcher (even as decent as Cain is with the bat), the bullpen pitched magnificently and the Cubs rallied near the end.

 

I like wins, though.
