Happ staying hot would be real nice, with he and Torres struggling out of the gate the Myrtle Beach boxscores were brutal to look at.

I haven't had much fun looking at any box scores yet. Part of the problem is that I still need to readjust my expectations, with no Bryant/Schwarber/Soler dongsmiths floating around. But, also, we have quite a few of our good pitching prospects that haven't made their debuts yet this year.

I imagine things will look better eventually. I do like that we have some talent at every level, though. And I am enjoying Willson Contreras maintaining his absurd hitting from last year.

Paul Blackburn is having himself an interesting April at Tennessee.

7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3/3 K/BB tonight

18 IP, 11 H, 1 R, 10/4 K/BB, 0 HR overall

If he can be that hard to hit or close to it, then he becomes more of a potential big leaguer.

Contreras singles in his first PA and is now up to .444.

Hmm...what are the chances he gets called up? I'm pretty desperate for a C (had Schwarber as a keeper) in my yahoo league and the pickings are pretty slim (14 teams, 2 Cs). I have Perzinsky now but ever since I've been starting him there's a little bit of puke on my pillow when I wake up in the morning.

With an injury to Montero, sure. I'd have to check our depth, but I doubt they'd call him up to replace Ross and miss out on AB's

Yeah, 1-run in three upper-minors games is pretty nice. Obviously he's been kinda BABIP lucky. But, he's long been a ground ball guy, and that's remained true. 88-92 isn't fast, but 88-92 controlled sinkers would seem perfectly playable. Will be fun to see how well he can sustain success this year.

A little disappointed with Candelario's start after such a strong looking spring with the big club. Obviously spring stats don't tell us much, even for minor leagues playing above their level, but I am hoping this is evidence he is making a leap as a prospect. 50 PA doesn't tell us much but was hoping for a hotter start.

Agreed. Especially after some of the glowing comments Joe made about him and his future. Seemed like he was likely to stay hot in AA.

The two hits he gave up yesterday were an infield single and a bunt single.

It is disappointing. I don't know how meaningful it is. If it lasts a couple months, then yeah.

Joe's always going to try to give a player confidence. I don't think he's lying, he's just not going to go into a young players deficiencies in front of the press unless it serves his or the kid's purposes.

This could be something as simple as his energy and enthusiasm crashing after playing with the major leaguers and doing well and then having to return to the realities of life in AA. It could be a lot of things. Let's see how long it lasts.

RHSP Duane Underwood got the start for the Cubs and worked five innings (62 pitches - 43 strikes), allowing the two first-inning runs mentioned above, five hits (a double and four singles), no walks, four strikeouts (all four swinging), and 5/4 GO/AO, and he retired ten of the last eleven men he faced.

I imagine he's ready to get called up to Tennessee. At worst, one more start in Arizona.
