at what point do we stop rooting for pittsburgh in these st louis pittsburgh games since pittsburgh is better?

A long time from now.

but i want sole possession RIGHT NOW

As much as I'd like to see the Cardinals lose every game, I'm reminding myself that them trading losses with the Pirates is probably for the best.

In related news, Grichuk has struck out in 5 of his first 7 ABs this year. Seven ABs means nothing, but there's a lot of swing and miss in his game, and he has quite a bit of bust potential. That would be nice.

Also, Michael Wacha looks far less than spectacular. In and of itself, that means little. But he was pretty mediocre down the stretch last year, and also in ST this year.

Did that weirdo Cardinals color guy just say "strucken out"?

Al Hrabosky is an abomination. Objectively, it's kind of an embarrassment that he calls games for an organization like the Cards. He may be the worst color man in the game. If they broadcast games in hell, he and Hawk would be the team.

Matheny just had Carpenter sacrifice bunt in the 7th inning of a tied game....

He may not be the manager they need, but he is the manager they deserve.

I don't know about that call. Didn't look too bad, although he does slide over the base.

It doesn't matter. He was reaching out in a way that wasn't reaching for the bag. It's perfectly legitimate to dislike the rule, but by the new rule, the call was correct.

Not really for or against the rule because I felt like it could be changed, but also kinda like takeout slides.

That having been said, bautista literally reached out to pull at his leg. If I was the ump I probably would've thought about calling interference even before the new rules were devised.

On Monday, my thirst for baseball led me to listen to the Reds/Phillies game on my way home from work. The Reds announcers were bragging about how it was a sea of red (the Phillies are also red) and how there weren't that many empty seats. And they sounded legitimately cocky about it. It made my day.

I'm gonna want the Cardinals to win today but I won't be heartbroken if they don't, either. I just slightly prefer we have sole possession of 1st place.

Uh no. Let the Cards get completely totally buried...then I'll worry about the Pirates.

I feel the opposite because I think the Pirates are going to be the better team. Let them play catch-up because the Cardinals won't be able to.

Maybe so, but I can root for the Pirates to lose every other game. I want the Cardinals to go 0-162.

I get wanting both, but really when they play and we don't obviously need on to win I just cheer for lots of pitches thrown and extra innings so they have to exhaust their pitching staffs.

when do the pirates plan on replacing their horrid back end with glasnow and/or taillon.

I don't know if they'll worry about the Super Two with Glasnow but he could be up as early as May or June. Taillon hasn't pitched many innings the past two years due to TJS so he's probably on a much more limited track this season - I guess it depends on how good he looks to start off and how creative the Pirates are with his innings so he can help the big league team.

playing super 2 games would be a good way to ensure that they'll be in another wild card game at best, but then i guess that'd be pretty smart of them for realizing they don't have a shot.
