Per Morosi.

I have to admit I don't know anything about this guy, but his 2015 line was not good.

I'm surprised Beane will deal with us anymore.

big right hander that doesn't appear to walk people

Profile: Traditional metrics don't have a lot of good to say about Aaron Brooks. He hasn't yet spent a season striking guys out an average rate, nor has he shown a plus grounder rate. You might wonder why Billy Beane even asked for him from the Royals. But there is at least one good thing about the pitcher -- his changeup. It's a plus pitch with plus movement and plus velocity gap. The problem is that the fastball is meh -- not 88 or anything, but 91 with just average movement and below-average results -- and the breaking pitches only okay. Well, hold on, his slider has gotten above-average whiffs. And his walk rate is minuscule, everywhere he goes. Right now, he's either a reliever or a seventh starter for the A's, so maybe we've spent too much time on him. But if he went to relief full time and found a big boost in velocity, then he might be more interesting in holds leagues. And the starters in front of him have almost all had injury issues, and recently. File Brooks away in all but the deepest leagues, but when his name comes up, remember at least one thing: "Oh yeah, that guy with the changeup, not the diminutive backup point guard." (Eno Sarris)

Really? Why?

I'm guessing Coghlan wanted it. Probably wants to play every day.

Yuuuuuuuup. He was making rumblings along those lines for a while now.

Yeah and I believe was the only major no show at Cubs Convention. I'm guessing Theo privately told him they would trade him.

Frankly he deserves it, just not with us.

can't decide what i'd rather do if i were him

on one hand, now he goes from a juggernaut cubs team...there are probably not many better situations to be in as a major league baseball player... to oakland.

on the other hand, he's experiencing sort of a career resurgence pretty late and he probably has a much better chance at making some serious money before he has to call it quits by playing everyday there vs being a backup here

It makes all the sense in the world to try and play every day, but I suspect his chances of making bank diminish while spending the next year in Oakland.

MESA – The Chicago Cubs today acquired right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks from the Oakland Athletics for outfielder Chris Coghlan.

Brooks, 25, has pitched part of the last two seasons in the big leagues with Kansas City (2014-15) and Oakland (2015) since being selected by the Royals in the ninth round of the 2011 Draft out of Cal-State San Bernardino. He was acquired by Oakland on July 28, 2015 as part of the trade that sent Ben Zobrist to the Royals. Brooks has gone 3-5 with an 8.38 ERA (54 ER/58.0 IP) in 15 big league appearances, including 10 as a starter.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound righthander combined to go 7-5 with a 3.56 ERA (47 ER/118.2 IP) in 20 appearances, all but one as a starter, between Triple-A Omaha and Nashville last season. He struck out 103 batters and walked only 21 in 118.2 innings pitched, an average of 7.8 strikeouts and only 1.6 walks per nine innings. Brooks turned in a 4.90 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Brooks has gone 43-32 with four complete games, one shutout, one save and a 4.18 ERA (302 ER/618.0 IP) in 113 career minor league appearances, 108 as a starter in five professional seasons. He is a native of Montclair, Calif.

Coghlan, 30, batted .250 (110-for-440) with 25 doubles, 16 homers and 41 RBI in 148 games for the Cubs last season. He joined the Cubs prior to the 2014 campaign and has batted .268 (602-for-2,244) in 666 games with the Marlins (2009-13) and Cubs (2014-15).

winning is awesome but lets be honest, he wasn't likely in the Cubs plans as I'm sure they want their 4th OF to be a good fielder, not one that is pretty much as bad as Schwarber and Soler may be.

This is a win for Coghlan. He will get the chance to play everyday in Oakland, if he hits good he will be a FA and get his one and only chance for a payday. If he hits really good, contenders will be probably be interested in him at the deadline and he could play out his last arb year with a contender.

For the Cubs, it has to be a straight dump...I probably valued Coghlan a little too much as I thought a 2 win player who is only 30 could get at least a slight better return than this Aaron Brooks guy.

I'm surprised Beane will deal with us anymore.

The conspiracy theorist in me says this is a 'make up deal' for ripping off Beane so badly last time.

i'm relieved i won't have to hear his christian rock walkup music anymore at least

Ironic considering he played 666 games with the Cubs.
