Theo was here when Sean Marshall got traded?? That just doesn't compute at all...seems like Marshall was way longer ago.

The Marshall for Wood trade was one of the first moves I remember Theo making. It may even have been his first trade.

Does anyone remember what his first official player transaction was?

I wanna say DeJesus was his first move.

Bingo. Came 5 days after his PC.

That reminds me to check Kim's instagram like a creep.

Those who have known Epstein a long time have suggested him as a future Democratic US Senator from Illinois or Massachusetts. Epstein has never publicly stated any political aspirations, but some Democrats have said that Epstein would make an outstanding politician, one who could even consider a presidential run at some point.

Haha. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that has any interest in being in politics. I could see him being a Fortune 500 CEO as some have suggested but not a politician.

He traded for Rizzo, Fowler, Arrieta, Hendricks, Russell, Montero, Strop and Grimm in a relatively short time period. I can't imagine many other executives could point to a better streak of 'won trades' in such a short window. He drafted playoff vets Bryant, Schwarber, Almora and Zastryzny (kinda sorta). Signed coveted FAs Lester, Zobrist and Heyward to deals under what other teams offered. Then made in season trades that led to a historic World Series win in Chapman and Montgomery.

Basically I'm wondering -- did we just witness the greatest 5 year job by a Front Office in history?

I was always wondering what his political leanings were. If he ever runs he already has my vote. I've heard plenty of people wonder out loud if he was ever considering politics.

Maybe he'll turn around Apple, or run the big pharma company that finds the cure for cancer.

Just on a purely superficial level, he seems like a pretty bad public speaker. Obviously that's something you can coach up to a degree, but it would really have to be worked on if he was going to run for anything.

Yeah, I agree. I don't see him being the candidate if he ever got in politics. He seems more like the guy who would run the campaign.

Exactly. Watching The War Room again the other day and Stephanopoulos really came across in a similar way to Theo/Jed.

Asked when (or really, whether or not) a wave of starting pitching will ever emerge from the Minor Leagues, Epstein claims that the Cubs have “at least three super talented guys at the lower to mid-levels” who have a chance, but that’s not how he likes to think about his organization’s pitching (ah, but who does he see as the three!?!? Cease, de la Cruz, Clifton? Albertos? Inquiring minds want to know!). While you can “plan” around your young position players, pitchers are a whole different story (TINSTAAPP). Epstein doesn’t beat around the bush with this one, basically adding that if there was one thing he’s learned throughout all these years is that your pitching plans always “blow up on you.”

and plenty more horsefeathers pitching inside

Moving on, Epstein reiterated that Jason Heyward had “a remarkable offseason,” and that he’s never seen a player of his caliber (and contract) work as hard as he has this winter. Apparently, he was in the Spring Training facility almost every single day this offseason. More importantly, Epstein believes that Heyward’s swing is “so much better” now than it was at this time last year. If you want some encouragement on Heyward’s progress, with some specifics on how he looks in batting practice (different from last year) I suggest you check out the rest of Epstein’s remarks around the 14:00 min mark.
