For those who can’t watch/listen. Sek out the monologue that Kelly is talking about. There’s a lot to chew on. And you can really tell how frustrated Theo is with some aspects of this team/season.

i bet the cubs didn’t have a sense of urgency because they read too many of duke’s posts and thought everything would be fine no matter what

wow good point guess we have to ban duke

Here's a hint Tyler, it's throw strikes.

He talked about some players having mental hurdles they weren't able to overcome. That made me think of Chatwood and Edwards.

Doesn't think Bryant needs surgery, but haven't gotten full medical report back.

Please send him to somewhere else to get checked out.

Yes, please. Get sixth, seventh and eighth opinions, thanks.

Carl was just hurt mostly I think. He was awesome before the shoulder injury (his BB numbers were down a good amount, iirc, and everything else looked great). He wasn’t the same when he came back, his stuff was not nearly as good and he probably had to adjust things because then he got hurt again with a different injury to compensate for the shoulder injury.

theo always knows what to say to say to make me feel confident

Yeah, regardless of how a season turns out, it's still such a refreshing change to hear someone in charge talk like this.

If you edit out the part where Theo specifically said Maddon is coming back for 2019, I would've guessed he is preparing to hire red assed Joe Girardi tomorrow with all the other things he said.

hopefully he hires that prick David Ross to just sit in the dugout and piss everyone off

I don't know if any of the guys left over from 2016 would even bother showing up to spring training, they'd probably all hold out and demand a trade.

Maybe old news to you guys who watched the whole presser, but the parts about guys just showing up, playing it cool, knowing theyre talented, or that 2 out of 3 in a series on getaway day was maybe “good enough” for some guys was as honest as I’ve ever heard a FO guy.

Obviously he wasn’t alluding to Javy. KB was hurt. Rizzo? Contreras?

I watched the whole thing. It was great and I think Theo said all the right things.

I don't think he was alluding to anyone in particular. Probably speaking about the team's mindset collectively and how they lost that killer edge. I really don't think the players got complacent.

A bunch of players just struggled this year. Also, we need to remember this Cubs team won 95 games so we have to frame this disappointment in the right context.

True, but some of those comments, like the noon game on getaway day in a long season, were pretty specific.

No, there’s no shame in 95 wins, but [expletive] the bed against the Pirates, or those Brewers series took away any gleem of the season. There were some pretty worthless ABs in those games.

The 2 out 3 ain’t bad attitude, that’s on the manager. But I think they just excepted to make the playoffs so they were looking to give guys time off. No one expected Yellich to turn into Ted Williams and the Brewers to actually be vaunted.

This is a pretty damn good interview. Yes he keeps talking about the changes being internal and from within but I really thought he did a good job laying just about everything out.

It's also the most comprehensive discussion of Russell we've gotten to date. He really ought to have been an adult and said all of that before they tendered Russell a contract, rather than the chicken-horsefeathers "release a written statement at 4pm on a Friday" way they initially announced it.

Yeah I thought that was a really good response and overview on Russell and really interesting to hear that Melissa and experts were consulted with and were for the decision they made.
