Hmmm, they WANT us to sign B. Harper lol? Are you horsefeathering kidding me? Do they understand how gigantic a leap in production that would be going from J. Heyward-to-B. HARPER? How dangerous would our lineup be with B. Harper batting #3!?! That's hilarious. Do they also want us to sign M. Machado and J. Donaldson too LMAO?

Of course they do, then the Cubs will have no money while only fielding five 5+ win position players to go along with several 2-4 win players. How can you win like that?

our farm system will never be elite again

True. There are only a finite number of good prospects assigned to each team and no variability that makes one team better at developing prospects than another. And the Cubs just wasted their allotment.

Or, you know when the restraints are off in IFA in a year or 2 they just won’t sign anyone because they’ve shown when they go all in without limits on IFA they can’t find prospects. Nope.

I don’t think this is photoshopped. Assuming it’s not, this is like the greatest thing ever

LMAO, how is that a real thing? No way...

We need to investigate this and see if this really aired or not. That's horsefeathering pathetic if true.

Not that specific game, but yeah, “Cardinals Rewind” appears to be a real thing.

https://www.foxsports.com/midwest/story/fox-sports-midwest-expands-st-louis-cardinals-offseason-lineup-111417

Cardinals Rewind, a one-hour look at the most memorable games of the 2017 season, premieres Wednesday, Nov. 22. The first episode takes fans through the Cardinals’ Sept. 4 win vs. the San Diego Padres, Carlos Martinez’ second complete game shutout of the season. Dan McLaughlin, Jim Edmonds and Brad Thompson take fans through the key moments and break down the game.

A fond look back at narrowly avoiding a losing season!

I don't see anything wrong with playing the best games from the previous season in the offseason, id watch that even if it came after a shitty Cubs season. The ridiculous part is how they are advertising it.

Oh I get that part too. I'd watch the best games from a shitty Cubs season as well. I just don't believe or can't believe someone actually came up with the line "Relive The Cardinals only 2017 win at Wrigley Field" lol.

I mean if somehow a Cubs fan actually managed to land a job at Foxsports Midwest and wrote that then that is excellent trolling on their part -- bravo =D> .

Yaaaaass.

"Last season, the Cardinals won 83 games but their underlying talent level played like a team that should have won about five more games. The Cubs won 92 games, and that was roughly their talent level during the year last year. We can’t simply look at those win totals or even the underlying peripheral totals, add or subtract the offseason moves and come up with a projected record."

NOPE, we gotta totally make horsefeathers up

"The Cubs are up 5.2 WAR on the position player side. There are a few different ways to look at that difference. The first is to accept it. "

The second is to be really really extra smart and throw out all objective analysis in favor of homer subjectivity. Beautiful.

That is...not how projections work. "If the Cardinals' best players hit their 90% projection and everything else between the 2 teams is at 50%, then the Cubs are only a couple wins ahead" is not worthwhile analysis. If your point is "there exists a world in which the Cubs and Cardinals can come out equal or with the Cardinals ahead", that's a point that should be internalized by everyone. That is not what anyone talks about when they talk about projections or team quality.

meh...it's just a homer blog and homer fans looking for hope in the extreme best case scenario. it's nothing we didn't do here from 2012-14.

There also exists a world in which Tommy Pham craters like Josh Harrison and Rizzo and Bryant combine for 3 more wins than 2017(like they did in 2016). I'm gonna write a blog post titled "how close are the Cardinals to the Cubs" and use that reality to conclude the Cubs are about 15 games clear of them.

That guy writes for Fangraphs.

fangraphs and BP (especially the locals) can have some pretty questionable contributors. not sure why they're letting the viva el birdos guy write for them but that's a diff conversation.

A girl I was friends with in high school married that cardinals blogger mentioned above. It has taken a lot of restraint not to mock her and him in her facebook posts.

I actually like her a lot and wouldn't do that, but it does bother me she married a huge cardinals homer/shill. He's also an Iowa fan, which is doubly bad in my eyes.

if i had to bet on the cubs being 15 games better than the cardinals or within 1 or 2, i'd take the former 7 days a week

The Cardinals should be more optimistic/worried about beating out the Brewers for 2nd and one of the WC spots than they are for catching us for the division

So I knew this day was coming. The Cards finally dumped Grichuk on some team. I'm glad he's gone to the AL too. The dude sucked against the majority of teams but somehow always killed the Cubs. The stupid tweets from a couple years ago by Cardinals' fans claiming Grichuk/Piscotty being superior to KB are glorious to behold now lol.

From GRB:

I think the Cubs have the rotation edge, we have the edge in lineup, and the pens are pushes going into the year. Ahead of adding Ozuna I would have said the lineups were pushes as well. I like that back of the napkin math at the end of the day. I guess I'm more looking at the additions for both teams, and I see us as playing the same smart game as Chicago but, to my biased eyes, doing it better. I wrote a long thing comparing their moves to ours this season but the shorter version is that I think we have matched them every time and we added someone in Ozuna that they have not (yet) come close to adding.

Is this as delusional as it sounds? Because it seems pretty horsefeathering delusional to me, especially the bolded.
