That is...not how projections work. "If the Cardinals' best players hit their 90% projection and everything else between the 2 teams is at 50%, then the Cubs are only a couple wins ahead" is not worthwhile analysis. If your point is "there exists a world in which the Cubs and Cardinals can come out equal or with the Cardinals ahead", that's a point that should be internalized by everyone. That is not what anyone talks about when they talk about projections or team quality.

So I knew this day was coming. The Cards finally dumped Grichuk on some team. I'm glad he's gone to the AL too. The dude sucked against the majority of teams but somehow always killed the Cubs. I think the Cubs have the rotation edge, we have the edge in lineup, and the pens are pushes going into the year. Ahead of adding Ozuna I would have said the lineups were pushes as well. I like that back of the napkin math at the end of the day. I guess I'm more looking at the additions for both teams, and I see us as playing the same smart game as Chicago but, to my biased eyes, doing it better. I wrote a long thing comparing their moves to ours this season but the shorter version is that I think we have matched them every time and we added someone in Ozuna that they have not (yet) come close to adding.
