Earnie Stewart is USS GM. Whatever that means.

Inevitable choice. Connected and respected internationally. It's a job upgrade for him, while it would have been a clear step down for Bocanegra and Reyna. Looking forward to his choice at coach.

I am already beginning emotional preparations for it to be Vermes. On one hand, what style of play better suited for imposing your will in CONCACAF matches. On other hand, what a trashbag brand of soccer it is. A dilemma.

I don't think his start date will prevent him from hiring a European coach if that's the direction they want to go. I think that start date is more about when he's done in Philly than when he's going to start making moves for USS.

That said, I agree, he's hiring American. It's going to be Jesse Marsch or Gregg Berhalter if I was betting. I'm actually OK with either. I think they've both shown a great mix of ambition and pragmatism. They both obviously know USS and the player pool. With such a young squad I don't think there would be any ego or chemistry issues. Marsch is rumored to be making the jump to Europe within the Red Bulls family. If that's real, he should probably do that. Berhalter was captain of a Bundesliga club, went to a World Cup, he's got enough credibility.

I haven't been exposed to Berhalter a ton, but from what I see I think he's about as good a fit as an MLS coach can be. This video was a nice primer.

Of course, it also inspired me to want to watch all of the videos from that channel, so dive in at your own risk.

Good stuff. Why isn’t Chicago in consideration for a host city again?

Rahm pulled the city's bid as FIFA wouldn't guarantee that significant local financing wouldn't be required to host, or something of that nature.

See you guys in DC which will host some games, won't they?

That sucks and looking at the potential host cities it will be a trek to go to any games. One that I’ll make but it will be inconvenient

Two notable absences, Chicago and Vancouver, did not agree to FIFA’s requirements for hosting games and withdrew from consideration.

My random prediction is that Lewandowski will lead the WC in goals.

be tough in 3 or at most 4 games and as your teams only real threat.

They'll get by Senegal to get through the knockouts. Only question is whether they get Belgium or England, they would have a shot to get to the quarters against England, not Belguim.

we'll see very soon on Senegal - I don't think that's a gimme.

Suarez hit side netting on a chance so wide open that I thought he scored and so did the person updating the score graphic.

Egypt has kinda gone toe to toe with Uruguay in terms of possession and chances, without Salah too. Exciting for their prospects of beating Russia and Saudi Arabia to get out of the group.

egypt almost giving this game away in the 86th minute. uruguay with a free kick off the goalpost.

and uruguay with the header in the 90th minute.

I'm only in minute 39 but so far Egypt seems to have no threat without Salah. 0-0 but I don't see any way Egypt wins this game (and I do know the final)

They get some better looks on the counter in the 2nd half, but they definitely need Salah to be more goal dangerous.

this game is a great example of why strikers get the glory and money - they aren't the best players but they are the difference of winning and losing.
